Power issues

I have a 93 Civic that I just traded some items for. New parts on the front end and runs good for 230k on it. Issue it seems to have is as follows, when it is hot out you can drive it for about 20-40min and then it will start to act up, such as the power gauges start to mis-read, it seems as if it wants to stop and at times will. Lights flicker and so on. So you let it sit and cool off and it then runs fine for about the same time.

When it is cold out there are not issues, runs fine all the time. I have taken the battery out and had it test and it tested fine, not to say it would need to be hot to test. I was thinking the Alternator but was unsure. Anybody got any ideas of things to try please let me know.

Check/tighten/clean all of your engine/battery/starter wires. It sounds like maybe a intermittent connection somewhere.

Check engine light?

Re: Power issues

I have cleaned all the cables with a wire brush as I though the same thing. The check engine light, oil light and the others blink on and off. I was going to go get the Alternator checked but if it is not warm enough it may not do any good. Is there a coil pack on these, could that be getting to warm?

Re: Power issues

By power gauges I meant the seat belt light, the battery light, the check engine light. Sorry to state it wrong, they start to blink on and off.

Re: Power issues

When it acts up, Rock the ignition key back and forth slowly and all those lights will blink as the ignition switch makes and loses contact....

If you can get it to act up this way, it's a bad switch.

That happened in my Volvo, I had to start the car then gently rock the key back to get the lights to come on lol.
