attempted to steal my car on New Years day
Hi guys, I was just wondering if you guys could share you insights and give me some inputs about my speculation. My car almost got stolen, I want to know:
1st: How they got into my car without the alarm going off? I asked around my neighbors which are literally living above the spot I parked my car because I live in an apartment complex; I had it parked inside the apartments in our assigned parking spot. Yet everyone says nobody heard a thing? I tested my alarm and everything works, very loud. I checked the battery and everything was connected. One of my neighbors suspected that they were high tech thieves and had a code reader with them that scans the alarm and bypass it.
2nd: Was my car being targeted or was it random? nobody else in the apartment's car was stolen. I guess it was the perfect time for them to steal my car on New years cuz everyone was loud and I was not home.
3rd: They did not end up stealing my car cuz their key broke off into the ignition, are they going to come back and finish what they started? Also they since they could not get my car started, they settled with my subwoofer and ransacked the inside to see what they could steal (my cds and thats all they stole).
what could I do to prevent this to happen again? I would appreciate if you guys could give me the most upfront answers. I already have pedal lock and alarm so those are excluded from the possible solutions. Thank you

1.) do you have shock sensors installed on the windows? There are ways around all alarms, they probably knew what they were doing.
2.) Probably saw the car and assumed you had some stuff. Do you play your sub load in from of your apartment? Is the car modded?
3.) You can add extra stuff to slow them down. Tilt sensor, shock sensors, fuel pump shut off, the club. Slowing them down is usually the only option.

How they got into my car without the alarm going off?
I tested my alarm
their key broke off into the ignition,
are they going to come back and finish what they started?
Was my car being targeted or was it random?
HINT: Think about what you and your car advertise
high tech thieves and had a code reader with them that scans the alarm and bypass it.
Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
my alarm is called rattler by DEI. they got into my car by jamming into the door's keyhole. No force play was seen aside from the keyhole. My car is honda civic 1995 ex coupe. I do go to college and i use my car solely for school, work and hanging out. My car is not decked out, however it is clean with metallic paint on it, im sure they got attracted to that one. plus i dont bump my music all loud either when I go inside my apartments or just anywhere in general. I keep it lowkey as much as possible. My car isnt that modded but yes, aesthetically my car looks modded with lowered springs and aftermarket wheels and lights. It is just clean and enough to attract thieves I guess. But Im just afraid they might come back and steal the whole car. @ golnat: yeah I would consider buying alarm with a shock sensor and fuel pump shut off.

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
My truck has been broken into a couple times....First was probably because I was bumping... Learned to not do that LOL.
Only owned the truck 3 days, still driving on dealer tags, wasn't lowered yet, just an ordinary truck.
They stuck a screwdriver in a door lock and simply pried it up or down, didn't twist it at all. Stole the amp. (I did not have any alarm in it at the time.)
Second was probably just because it's a lowrider, therefore it MUST have cool **** in it.
Window broken, the tint kept it held together instead of falling out, and the glass break sensor activated the alarm. Nothing stolen, but still a big hassle.
----------------------------------------------------------
You could wire in your own switch to kill ignition or fuel or anything that would stop the engine from running, and hide it under the dash.
But you'd have to remember to flip it every time you get in or out.

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
Where can I have a kill switch job done ? It sucks how these type of people, *******s that is choose holidays to do their **** and victimize people who are celebrating life. My friend's car was stolen during black friday at the mall. Do you guys think they'd come back for my car since they did not get to start my car cuz their key broke off into the ignition?

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
What does your car alarm do? It (the alarm) should have a starter kill, correct? So was the alarm going off the whole time or did it not go off?
Generally kill switches are a personal thing that the owner of the car should install. Who ever would wire one for you would know how to start your car.
It sounds like the B&E was done by someone with 'jiggle' keys (punk *** kids) and not pro thieves so I wouldn't be too concerned about them coming back for your car.

@ stockk 99: Yeah, when my alarm goes off it does kill the starter too. But Neighbors did not hear anything which is weird or they were too busy having fun. i find that impossible cuz my car is sitting below the apartment rooms and my alarm is loud as tested. Okay, i'd attempt to install one myself, where do i buy the equipment? . thanks for keeping my hopes up, I am even more paranoid than I already was. I really hope they dont. They might have targeted my car already though cuz I was the only one the got broken into at the apartments and I have a neighbor who has an eg6 more decked out but it was untouched.
Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
@ezone, thanks for your ideas too bro. and yeah tow trucks are there last resort. but I just hate the idea that someone have gotten into my car and sitting there thinking some stranger jacked my shizz

If they got in without tripping the alarm, guess what.
If you leave it broke off in there, they won't be able to stick another key in.

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
Well OK sure lets say they have the know how to bypass the alarm. It's even easier to by pass the kill switch. I already know how to bypass all the kill switches on a 96 Civic in seconds and I'm not even a car thief.
just sayin'
just sayin'
Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
they bypass the alarm either by code readers or I dont frigken know how else man. You're saying kill switch is easier to bypass, that's crazy.

Maybe speak to your alarm installer, figure out how to better protect it?

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
Knowing how it all works is the way to get around anything you put on it.
(Still seriously doubt kids have code readers. That's some old school **** there.)
Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
I hate theives. I had my 94 Accord broken into while I was at college. Makes you feel so violated! Yea, a 95 is a popular chassis and if the body is clean and in good shape it can bring a good amount of money.
If you use a key to open your door does your alarm still go off? It should go off if the door is unlocked with anything other then the remote.
You can add additional security stuff to your system like:
Tilt sensor for towing
Shock Sensors on all the windows, trunk, hood.
Fuel pump cutoff switch
Removable steering wheel
Lojack for when all else fails
My insurance company told me insurance was higher on a Honda because they are one of the most stolen vehicles. Especially before 01 because there was no immobilizer. All you needed with the old Honda's was a flat head screw driver and a hammer to start the car once you were in.

lol Even my DX was stolen at 3 times the national average and it's reflected in my insurance premiums. Good thing it gets 40 mpg or it would be a total waste of time.I've had a car broken into as well and yes it sucks but that's life...people suck. Don't waste your time worrying about it. Insure the car accordingly and get on with your life.

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
sounds like it's become apart of you guys' life now and just used to it. lol @golnat: yeah, my alarm does go off when i use my key while the alarm is armed. but i dont know what happened why the neighbors did not hear anything, some kind of bs i dont want to believe. and yeah when you said "you feel so violated" is exactly how I feel. when I go inside my car i can just imagine what if like anyone could have just stolen it for the night or and returned it back every time, if that's how simple it is. I don't like the idea that someone's gotten into my car, do you? but i guess stock99: is right, i should not just worry too much about it and instead take all precautionary steps and move on.

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
Just out of curiosity, how long ago did you have the alarm installed?
Wondering if it was an inside job. A guy at the shop, told a guy who knows a guy type of thing.

Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
i bought this car from my uncle. and i think the alarm is old. "Rattler" by DEI. true i have heard of that kind of consipary
Re: attempted to steal my car on New Years day
one more thing, how about changing the door key locks and ignition key lock with a later model set of locks and laser cut keys. How can this job be done and what type of locks should be used?
