'94 Si:ECU questions

I realized today that I have the acura ecu in my si...will getting a new ecu change anything besides the check engine light coming off? Currently I have aftermarket exhaust and intake, but that's the only engine/power mods. Does an ecu need to be programmed to changes you make in the system? I'm really in the dark on this one.

Help! Thanks.

Why?

Does an ecu need to be programmed to changes you make in the system?
I don't think you have anything listed that would create a need to change it yet JMHO.

Because the guy who owned it before me put it in. I assume there was something wrong with the original, but I don't know for sure.

What WOULD create a need to change it? A turbo?

Yes. Turbo, a big cam, or serious internal mods that would require a significant change to the amount of fuel and/or timing needed to run properly.

CAI and pipes don't cause that need IMO. Stock ECM/PCM can compensate for those without a problem. IMO.

If the engine runs good with the ECM you already have, I'd leave it alone for now.

Is the ECM from an Integra or what?
Is the engine also a swap? Hopefully from the same car?

The ECM is from an integra, yes. No engine swap occurred though. Still have the original D16 in there.

The engine runs fine, except sometimes during idle it revs up and down at first then settles at a normal rpm. (This could be something else entirely, although i just replaced the oxygen sensor and it changed nothing.) During autocross last weekend it performed well and seemed to have the power I thought it would.

The ECM is from an integra,
What's the part number on the ECM? I'm curious if it crosses over to a Honda, since the Integra is nearly the same.

sometimes during idle it revs up and down at first then settles at a normal rpm.
Look into coolant level and flow, and sticking IAC (or FICV if it has one, bottom of throttle body).
The FICV needs to be getting antifreeze just as fast and just as hot as the rest of the coolant in the engine, in order to keep the idle speed right for any given engine temperature.

If the coolant is full: At that age, I'd expect clogged passages anywhere in the circuit of small hoses. Stop-leak really messes these up too.
