Hard start

Today my kid changed the plug wires and put teh timming cover back on the 1994 civic. She pulled all the wires off first not paying attention to where they ran. After a quick search we got the firing order right. The thing will barly start and when we get it started it seems to only be running of 3 or 3 cycl. Changed back to the old wires no change. Pulled the plugs and a few had a week spark so going to go get replacements. The car ran fine before she did this and iv checked for loose wires and found nothing. Any sugestions?

Re: Hard start

has to be wrong firing order if it was fine before. try and make sure the wires are properly matched up.

Re: Hard start

i double and tripple checked... got the right firing order. i can pull wire 2 and 3 with no change in the way it runs..after changing the plugs it ran no better. folowed these directions and did some testing to find out coil was bad ( ground was flashing during cranking). now the coil is only 2 months old with less than 500km on it. only reason it was replaced was i lost the spring out of the old one. why would i pop a coil so fast?

Re: Hard start

is it a honda coil or some aftermarket store brand? same question for the wires. ive seen them come back in 2 months before. many ignition parts you dont want to mess with off brands. except ngk wires are pretty good comparable to oem. and only use ngk or denso plugs. if you dont have a honda coil, i suggest getting one.

Re: Hard start

I have worked in and out of the automotive service for the last 10 years or so and honestly i have never seen any diffrence between aftermarket and OEM parts. In fact i had noticed that over the years the aftermarket parts were actually OEM just had the OEM numbers covered up. Yes quite often with aftermarket especially with reman parts you get a few defective parts but i have also seen the same amount of defective parts with OEM .... just luck of the draw i guess...hehe I will agree on plugs and wires as every veh seems to have their favorite for some strange reason. Yes honda does make a great product but for me to go oem parts in my neck of the woods the stealership has their parts marked up 30 - 50 % more than any other honda dealership... Of course this is just my opinon not trying to **** anyone off here...

On a side note i have never seen a coil fail in this way. It has always eather worked or not... never seen one partialy fail... time to go see what teh warranty is on this part..hehe

Thats what I am saying. I have never seen a coil mess up and partially work. They either work or not. Did you get the issue fixed with the coil.

Re: Hard start

Napa was closed today so won't have a new coil until tomorow. Still trying to figure why it went. Only thing i can figure at this point is the kid likes to crank the sterio while she is outside. wondering if she turned the key to far and actually had the ignition powered up and just overheated it?

Re: Hard start

Ok iv now rulled out the coil. New one and it runs no better. Replaced dist cap and rotor while i was at it. Now im thinking fuel or air? Pulled the 4 brand new plugs and 3 out of 4 were carboned up after about 5 min of running. Now im curious on how the air is controlled. I noticed that the flap on the intake dosent move when i start it untill i hit the gas to move it? I know on my prevous veh it had a controll that controlled it at idle? Im frigging stumped on this one. For one im not used to working on something with suck tight places to work or so short. I drive lifted trucks ...hehe...

hehe ya pretty stupid on my part i know better. Instead of working clockwise on the dist i was working left to right. so no mater how many times i read the firing order it seamed right to me. But i guess this is why we have fourms like this. eventually someone will say the same thing enough times to make you look at it again and get it through the thick head that they screwed up..haha

Thanks
