radiator ?

Hi i have a 1995 civc hb 1.5l 16 valve sohc. I need to replace my rad and the replacement rad I got, has 2 fittings for lines at the bottom of it that my original rad don't have? My Car has no ac, no power steering and is standard. Can i use the replacement rad. If i did not cap off those 2 fittings would high pressurized coolant come from there? Or are they to cool tranny fluid or another fluid. I know this is probably the most basic of basic questions, but from searching i can't find the answer anywhere. besides those 2 fittings everything else on the new rad fits.

Thanks

Re: radiator ?

They are automatic tranny cooling lines. I don't know if they are capped or not but I'd imagine they are already capped... You should be able to tell just by looking at it. If you bought a universal rad it should work if you bought one for automatic tranny you might have to find a way to cap the lines or get a manual tranny rad.

Re: radiator ?

Out of the box the threads just have rubber nipples on them. Does the rad use coolant to cool the tranny or does it cool tranny fluid through those to fittings.

Re: radiator ?

I'm not positive but I'm pretty sure you hook up two hoses to the fittings and coolant runs through the transmission housing and cools the oil that way. So, if those lines aren't capped, it will **** coolant out.

Re: radiator ?

ya thats pretty much what i was thinking. well i guess i will be returnin that rad and look for one that matches the original? thanks for the reply. i went all over hells acre to find something to cap those fittings off and i could not find anything with threads to match. the guy at the parts store said just to put hose clamps on the rubber nipples, i am no brain child but i could picture those 2 rubber nipples blowing up like a water balloon if i did that. although i could be wrong

Even in this picture it shows the oil coolant lines. Call the dealership and ask them if it's supposed to have them and how to cap them.

Re: radiator ?

no, auto trans fluid runs thru the radiator using those fittings. the radiator has two separate coolers built in (one for oil and one for coolant). definately coolant does not flow anywhere near the trans housing. you can leave the fittings uncapped if you want, there is nothing inside to come out. but i would cap them anyway to keep dirt out.

Re: radiator ?

I just did some more research. Turns out you don't even need to plug those, if nothing goes in, nothing will come out. So go ahead install the rad and you should be okay.
