bad thermostat?

Hey, just did a head gasket wp timing belt etc. on my 91 dx.Before I got it someone put stop leak in it.I did not do a full flush before I put in new thermo and am now seeing the stop flush on the radi cap and top of the radiator.so now the car is getting hot at high speeds, temp gauge reading high then low in a matter of seconds, the heater helps but air seems to cool down? Anyway you guys think its the gummy stop leak pluging up the thermostat? the coolant level is fine.its not over heated yet.Whats the best flush chemical or additive to use?
Thanks in advance.

Re: bad thermostat?

yeah if your car is over heating the first thing to check is the thermostat, but b4 u buy a new one just take urs out and put in in boiling water, if it opens it is all good but if it doesnt it is toast.

Re: bad thermostat?

it may be your thermostat start there ... they are only about 7 dollars and very easy to put in ... if it gets to normal temp after that and your car dosent blow heat your heater core may be clogged that stopleak crap is the worst thing you could use in a cooling system ... good luck
