Yet another gutless Civic
Yet another gutless Civic
Hey guys, so I've got a 1992 Civic DX automatic
with 104k miles, and it feels gutless! Haha, no surprise there, but for some reason it feels significantly less powerful than it should. It runs pretty well, the spark plugs are in good working order, and the air filter seems clean, but the throttle response is pathetic. I've compared it with my Grandpa's stock 1999 Civic DX Auto with 120k miles, and his gets up and goes MUCH better than mine - seriously, it feels like a sports car compared to mine, lol. I know the '99 a slightly larger engine and a whopping 4 horsepower more, but I can't imagine 4 horsepower making that significant of a difference. What do you guys think? Maybe my engine isn't breathing well? Maybe a car just slows down over 17 years? Haha.
Half of me is actually hoping that it breaks down at some point so I can get that '00 Civic Si that I've had my eye on

Re: Yet another gutless Civic
get the SI! those are the best year civics but you gotta guard it with your life or it will be stolen in a few days. have you tried changing distributor cap and rotor? and plug wires too. may want to clean out the intake system like throttle body and idle valves to get all the junk out. and start using lubecontrol gas and oil additives to clean everything out.
Re: Yet another gutless Civic
Thanks for the input Gearbox! Hopefully that will help things.
Yeah, I would absolutely love an SI, but there are a few things I'm a little unsure about. Sports Car insurance, Premium gas, and trying to find one that hasn't been riced out and thrashed, haha. My second choice would be a 2000 manual EX. The insurance and gas sound great, but people seem to bash them for being 'slow.' Compared to my current car though, I'm sure it would be tons of fun, haha. What do you think? Should I avoid the EX? As far as cars go my priority would be economy, but I also love driving. I don't necessarily need a crazy fast car as long as it is fun to drive.

Re: Yet another gutless Civic
eh you will not be happy with the ex if youre expecting a faster car. an SI with a good supercharger system will put out easily 200+whp. even in stock form its decently fast.
