Painting whole car
Painting whole car
I need your opinion on this, I just took in my bros 1993 that he wrecked. All it needs is to replace the drivers front fender/bumper/headlight, side marker. Overall the car has no dents/dings besides on on the drivers rear panel that the shop would fix for me. I'm going to use it as my daily driver soon, and want it to look nice. I've gotten prices on parts/labor to fix. So far fixing it and painting the repairs run around 1500. If I decide to paint the whole car, done right meaning taking off all lights/molding the guy would charge about $2000 plus $500 in parts. So at the end it would be $1500 to fix and paint about half the car. Or $2500 to fix and paint the whole car.
I plan on keeping/driving this car for atleast 2yrs. The interior of the car is clean also. I'm just debating if spending the extra 1k would be worth it in the long run. The car has no mechanical problems what so ever.
I've had a couple people say that with the car looking clean and new paint job that I'd probably get my money back when I decide to sell. BTW I didnt pay my bro for the car either. He just handed it to me, so I have no money in the car as of now.
What would you do in my shoes?
Thanks in advance!!

Re: Painting whole car
My honest opinion, put as little money into a 93 Civic as possible unless your planning on it becoming a longterm project that your okay with dumping money into. If it were a car <10 years old I would say paint the car, but not a 17 year old+ vehicle.

whoever told you "probably get my money back when I decide to sell." has no clue. You never get your money back in cars. Replace the panels, buy a spray gun for an air compressor shoot it with 3 coats of color, 2 clear and drive the baby til it dies. Dont waste your money on a pro job.

Re: Painting whole car
if you want a nice paint job, prep the car yourself and take it to maaco for spray and clear. $500. you can work one panel at a time and primer it when youre done. sand down to metal, clean it up, paint the primer few coats, sand it a lil til its smooth, then move on to panel B.
Re: Painting whole car
I'm contemplating the same thing right now...just got my 1st car back from my parents as a daily driver. It's a '92 vic 4-door and there is some slight damage from my sister (
)
Planning on fixing the damage myself, and spraying the entire thing with some gray or black primer. It will look ghetto fab, but who cares.
