Re: steering gone away???

You could have the early signs of a power steering Pump on its way out. if the fluid

in the Power Steering reservoir looks dark/black change it out

Yeah... it was dark/black ? the Old Power Steering Fluid could be broken down.

Hondas aren't Known for bad P/steering Pumps, "BUT if You gota change one out its not

very difficult on Your 91 Civic. do the fluid change you could pull the Lower

Hose on the bottom of resevoire like I see many guys do on YouTube and

make a big mess I like pumping it out from top and re-filling it a few times

a lot cleaner that way, and No Mess.. to clean up afterword...!

Re: steering gone away???

Does it lose power assist at the times you need it most? (highest demand for hydraulic pressure)
Is it a sudden loss, not gradual nor like the pump is limited?
Once it happens (loses power assist), revving the engine up does not help?

I've heard of a high pressure hose having a problem internally causing something like this, but never witnessed it in person.

Re: steering gone away???

a hose?
Yes.
A leak is not the only possible way a hose can fail.

https://www.yourmechanic.com/article...-steering-hose

The high pressure hose is a hydraulic hose comprised of several layers and may or may not have a restrictor or suppressor inside it.

If an inner layer develops a blem it can turn into an internal bubble or flap that causes a restriction to either flow or pressure, or both.

Not saying this is your problem, just tossing it out as a SWAG
