New Civic
Hey guys...just bought my first Civic. It's a Silver '99 EX Coupe. First of all, I'd like some input on what mods I should do first. I wanna try to go cheap, but not too cheap, and I'm going for looks before engine upgrades. If possible, please list some prices for some of this stuff if you know an approximate amount. Second, the specs on the car say thats it's VTEC, but when I look at my engine it doesn't say anything about being a VTEC engine. My friend has a '93 Civic and his says VTEC on the top of the engine...why doesn't mine??

Welcome to the club!
For starters, if you're looking for outside mods like a body kit, going cheap is not always that cheap...kits come in urethane and fiberglass - urethane is better in the long run, and fiberglass tends to split and become brittle. Depending if you're just going for a lip in the front to a full blown kit, it can get up in price (don't forget you have to paint it!)
As for interior mods, you can get some pedal sets, and they can be as cheap as 20.00, or as expensive as close to 100.00 - some of them require drilling in order to hold them in place. Then you have your shiftknob - auto or manual, this is a cool personal touch. They can go for the same price range as the pedal sets. Next you have your indiglo gauges, which I really like in my car (97 coupe); easy to install, and you can get it from any place online for very little money.
As for your engine, if you have an EX, you definitely have a VTEC engine in there. It's just a question of what cover you have on your engine block. Some came with them, others didn't...if you're not sure, you can check the tag on the block itself and verify that you have an EX engine. The code for your engine would be: D16Z7
Hope that helps!

How much is the price difference between urethane and fiberglass? I think I'm going to go with a spoiler before I do anything with the bottom. Also, how is buying parts off of Ebay for this kind of thing? I just talked with a coworker and he said he does all the time, but he doesn't seem like he's "all there" if ya know what I mean.
