Damper pulley is not all the way on after timing belt install

I just changed the timing belt on my98 civic for the third time at 331k.Now I have alternator and power steering alignment issues. The damper pulley goes on and tightens ok,but it sticks out about 1mm .Removed pulley and I can see the very outer edge of pulley is not completely going on crank all the way. Any help appreciated.

Would not have thought you would have disturbed anything but belt and water pump? Did you replace anything else to turn something around so the chamfer on a hole is facing wrong direction?

Did not remove water pump, just the pulley.Even tried a new pulley-same result.I even drove it a couple times before I noticed-no vibrations or anything- just was destroying alternator belt.

If you are only looking into it before installing the big bolt, there should be about 1-2mm gap (from memory) showing between the outer edge of the pulley and the end of the crank.
If the balancer pulley slid on until it was flush with the crank snout, the bolt would bottom out on the crank and couldn't secure the pulley.

Crank timing gear....is the belt guide shim installed in the correct direction? Correct place? Gear not installed backwards?

Was the crank pulley dropped and bent or chipped? Any of the ribs damaged?

Is the outer section of the balancer broken free from the inner hub, rubber ring has deteriorated/unbonded, allowed the ring to move sideways or wobble?

Checked for crank thrust movement/bearing wear? Manual trans? Is the crank walking out when you push on the clutch pedal?

You've convinced me my pulley is not the problem.Logic says if it ate my alternator belt it would have ruined my power steering belt too.I will look for an alignment problem with my alternator.Thank you!

If you did not remove the alternator, then it shouldn't be the issue either. ....(because it did not move sideways)
Is there an issue with eating the AC belt, if equipped?

I've somehow installed a serpentine belt "one tooth off" sideways over one pulley, and had it eat one rib off of the belt in a short time. Could this have happened to you too?

Know my 94 Civic has a small flat multi V belt that you could get off. I replace it with aftermarket and noticed the new belt V was not as deep as the original Honda. Was still learning aftermarket rarely saves anything. It did work OK however.

No A.C. Belt long gone has 331k miles. Just separate belts for alt. And p.s. Alternator failed right after timing belt job literally as soon as I put it all back together. Drove just a couple times and alt
Belt had inside edge mangled. So I replaced belt w/ new alt. Then the belt REALLY squealed! Upper alt. Bolt hole in new alr. Is stripped ,so they ordered me a different one. But remember had alignment problem on old alt.right after TB install so I don't think that's the problem . No real adjustment on alt.

^ Suspect: Wrong pulley or damaged pulley on the first replacement alternator.....does its pulley not match up with the belt you are using? (# of ribs, width, etc.)

I will install new alt. And see what happens. Remember it was eating the inside edge of the belt before with old alternator. Must be something I did during TB repl.Obviously no adjustment in belt except side to side. Thank you !
