Advice- Seems like a good offer...
97 Civic EX
$1650
It has:
No collision
4 cyl
Automatic
2 dr
New head on engine
headgasket replaced
new cooling system
new rack and pinion
new timing belt
new water pump
It needs:
New windsheild
New regulator for the pass window
I thought it sounded like a fair price and I just wanted to know if others thought so too.

Re: Advice- Seems like a good offer...
Just found out that the car is being held pending payment of the work that was done. It's been there since February and the owner has until month end to pay and reclaim the car.
Do you think the shop would have done a compression test due to the work I listed below?
I suppose I could call them back- They were pretty helpful in shedding a little light on the situation/owner I'm dealing with.
Thanks for helping!

Really should be 10psi difference for a fresh rebuild. 20psi is a high mileage engine and if the heads were done right then it may have a minute amount of loss somewhere else. I'm thinking you should be ok for now.
Ask the shop how much they want if he doesn't sell it. If it's less than $1650, talk him down to what the shop wants to release it. Then take him down there and make them release it to you. I imagine $1650 is the cost with all those repairs but, you never know. Doesn't sound like too bad a deal.
Windshield will cost you $250-350 for mobile windshield repair. Passenger switch is usually a broken wire or the master switch.

Re: Advice- Seems like a good offer...
Well, I bought it- $1200 after seeing how badly it was treated.
Before I left the lot I had the shop do the front brake pads and rotors and also the passenger window regulator.
I took it from there to another shop and had the windshield replaced and driver door lock fixed.
Then it went to be detailed and have the carpet dyed.
Turns out this cars was much worse than the guy led on.
Looks like it went through a hail storm. It has minor scratches and dents all over the thing. Lastly it was filthy beyond belief.
I'm just shy of having $2000 into it after all repairs. The A/C doesn't work but since I bought it as a gas saver- well that will help too
. It needs a new compressor and I've been quoted $550 to do it. I probably wont do it unless my husband gets the part and does it himself.
My husband has been out of town, so your comments and others I've talked to have made this buying experience [on my own] easier for me.

Re: Advice- Seems like a good offer...
If you get a new compressor I recommend a new one. Re-builds and used usually don't last that long, if they work at all. Just my experience.
