97 Honda Civic HX Distributor leaking motor oil.

My 97 Honda Civic HX's Distributor is leaking motor oil. It's not from the plastic O-ring on the rotor shaft that connects to the camshaft end because I changed it several months ago. I believe the Distributor is leaking motor oil from inside the distributor. Would it be possible to replace the internal distributor "oil seal" to stop the motor oil leak? Can the distributor be taken apart to replace the internal oil seal? How do I do it? I'm trying to avoid in buying a new/used distributor. Just to let you know the car starts and run fine. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Re: 97 Honda Civic HX Distributor leaking motor oil.

This is my findings, yes you can replace the OIL SEAL inside the distributor. Just take out the distributor (make sure you etch a line on the distributor end to the Valve Cover so you replace it exactly how you removed it. Draw a line so you don't throw you timing off, if not you'll need a timing light to set it back to place.) Once you pull part the distributor replace the OIL SEAL inside. It's gonna be a little difficult (maybe) to remove the old OIL SEAL but be patient you'll get it off. Then place the new OIL SEAL in its place. Try not to damage your new OIL SEAL. I tapped my with a hammer lightly with the end of a scew driver. Then reassemble the distributor back together. I took picture originally before starting and drew diagrams of the distributor parts before removing them so that I could reasemble it back together again as it originally was. Make sure you put the "lug" on the distrubtor end exactly how you removed it or else it would be 180 degree off. (make sure you put it on correcly) Before putting the distibutor back into the CAMSHAFT END replace the outer O-Ring too. You done! It was very easy. GOOD LUCK. YOU CAN DO IT! ....No more leaking in my distributor and it only cost me $10 rather than the cost of a new one. AWESOME!!
