98 civic ex, no spark
So here's a little back story. Car was driving fine until the other day I went through a light then it just died on me, after that the car would not start up at all. The car turns over, sounds like it wants to start but doesnt. I have a friend who works on honda's who advised me of a few things I could check.
First I was asked when I put my key into start pos2, what happens. I explained I could hear the fuel pump prime, I get 1 inital click but then nothing else after that and the chk eng light stays on. He thought it was the fuel pump relay, after I disconnected the negative battery terminal to reset the ecu, I turn the key into start pos 2, and i get the first 2 clicks now and my check eng light went off like it normally would, when i try to crank it I get the 3rd click from the relay but again not starting.
I tried jumping the car with cables, no luck there either. Tested to see if the car was getting any spark to the plug wire, and it there was not. While testing that I could smell the gas so i know gas was getting there but there's no spark. All the fuses checked out ok, I had the distrib cap & coil replaced last time something like this happened like 7 months ago, could it really go out again that quick? Is there anything else I could check? The timing belt is incased so I can't tell if it's broken or not, but the car doesn't sound any different when I try to start, would that have an effect on the plug wires not getting any spark? Do you guys have any thoughts or suggestions of what the problem could be or fixes?
