Dashboard/iPod Mount

New to the forum.

First, I'm driving a '98 Civic, LX.

As seen from the pictures, my mount is fairly close to the dashboard. I plan on splicing a cigarette lighter behind the dash, and I would like to run an iPod/iPhone charger from that up to my phone. Now, I hate having wires hanging around. My question is: where is the absolute best place to either drill (if i absolutely have to) into the dashboard where it could reach the Car Mount with minimum wires (If I do this, I'd also be running the aux wire through) showing.

So, basically. Is drilling necessary, or could I just pry the plastic in a specific place up a little bit and squeeze the wire through there? And if drilling is necessary. Where is the best place?

Thanks.Click image for larger version

Re: Dashboard/iPod Mount

I apologize for the photos being sideways. I'll be sure not to do that in the future.

Re: Dashboard/iPod Mount

what you're really asking about is the cigarette outlet mounting, not the ipod/dashboard mount, right?

I'm planning to do the same thing to my civic - look forward to seeing your results.

Where did you get the enercell outlet? radioshack?

btw, my buddy proposed adding a simple flip switch to mine, as I'm going to have this outlet bypass the ignition

Well, not really. I know how to splice the cigarette outlet behind the dash. Im just trying to find out where the most convenient place to drill a hole into the dashboard would be so that my iphone charger wire can travel behind the dash up to my phone.

But yes. a flip switch sounds like an excellent idea.

Re: Dashboard/iPod Mount

Hmmm, I see some walmart stuff going on in there :P

Dunno though, your setup is...well, not too great
You can probably fish the wire through your A/C but that would look weird

What I would maybe do, is cut a hole in the back of that pocket next to your deck, and run the ipod wire through that, then move the windshield mount over a tad to the right

But if it was my car, I would get a USB dock, like something similar to this

Drill a hole in the dash, stick the docking station to the dash, and wire it up inside the dash

yeah. That might work better.

And I would've gotten a true dock, but I use an otterbox case. And I really didn't want to take it on/off every time I wanted to use it.
