I replaced my original antenna that bent off my '98 Civic DX with an antenna from ebay. Are the original antennas self-retracting (i.e., when you crank the engine and the radio is on) though? The one I replaced it with doesn't have a way of self-retracting. I replaced it so long ago that I don't remember what the original antenna even looked like. I just want to know if the original antenna is self-retracting or not self-retracting. The owners manual does not say.

im pretty sure they are not auto retracting (you have to push it in with your hand).

Ah yes, that diagram shows it was the same as the one I replaced it with. It doesn't have a way to auto-expand/contract. Thanks for the diagram.

I hear something when I turned my key to position II as if a little motor is doing something. First I thought it could be the antenna motor but now I know that it is not. I'm trying to figure out what device is making that noise. It lasts 2-3 seconds I think and sounds like an antenna expanding on modern cars.
