new here, radiator issue?

My 99 LX's radiator just cracked a month and a half after changing the timing belt/water pump. The mechanic said these civics are known to have issues with the radiator. Is he full of it? I found it odd that after the water pump replacement and pressure check, they wouldn't be able to tell that the radiator was going bad. Am I ignorant about this than I think?

Re: new here, radiator issue?

well the radiators are made of plastic parts, so they are more prone to cracking. and no, there is no way to tell if its going bad unless it actually cracks and starts leaking. it could happen overnight. luckily its pretty easy to replace yourself, and prolly change the two hoses while everything is off. you can reuse the coolant since its still pretty new, just keep it from getting dirty after draining.

The radiator commonly fails at the top seam. Pretty easy to replace yourself. You can get a new one for about $100 at an auto parts store.
