Re: engine misfires
What was done to the car just before this happened? Did you just fill it up with gas? If so you might have some really bad gas. Any work done recently? Did you have heavy rain just before it started?
First off, remove the three screws that hold on the distributor cap and pull it off to inspect inside. It should be nice and clean (and dry). Start there.

Re: engine misfires
last mechanical work done to the car was timing belt almost a year ago. i was driving to the beach when it happened. i'm in the process of buying plugs, plug wires, cap and rotor, gas filter for my tune up. hopefully that does the job. if the distributor isnt clean is there any way to clean it? do i need to remove the negative cable to work on the distributor i dont feel like getting shocked lol
Re: engine misfires
Im having almost the same issue and the electrical is the only thing I havent changed yet, ignition coil will be in thursday. nothing I have done has helped with this problem. Even after cleanign out a completely blocked EGR passage did nothing to help with this, New fuel filter and all. So...but yes remove the negative battery cable before changing the cap and stuff. Do you HAVE to? No but it will be better practice to do it.
Re: engine misfires
If the engine is off the dist. cap can off with no fear of shock. You can dry it out if wet. You guys need to buy a can of 'Iso Heat' and see if you somehow got moisture in the tank from condensation. Try it if the dist. cap is dry inside, not burned and there are no carbon tracks.
