97 Civic DX

Ok so last month for my birthday I got a 97 Honda Civic DX runs really well almost at 150k miles, AND ITS A STICK ^_^

Now then the only problems it has are.

The window defrosters don't work and the heat doesn't work well.
The Stick rattles like a madman
The radio was stolen last year and never replaced
NO POWER WINDOWS OR POWER LOCKS OR POWER MIRRORS.

Now then I come here asking for help about the whole power things. I would like to if possible install power windows, mirrors, and doors. I would also like to eliminate my shifter rattle. The radio can be bought at like Best Buy or something.

Re: 97 Civic DX

Yeah, you have some electrical issues, ha ha. Someone else may be able to answer directly, in addition, you should check the leads into the rear defrost and check your fuses.

Before you get started buy a Haynes manual from your local auto parts store or online. Some will reccommend Chiltons but I have had three separate Chiltons and will state for the record I dislike them.

Anyway, sounds like you stick just needs to be tightened up which can be accessed by taking off the shrowd.

The radio being stolen in combination with your lack of power options makes for some good audio opportunities and you can customize your stereo without having to take out the old one, hopefully they were nice when they stole it and left you the wires you need. Since you have less options in your doors then you have less wires to worry about going into the doors making the run of speaker wire easier. I am unsure of power windows but I know you can get power locks with alarm installed for pretty cheap, or do it yourself.

All the power options are ran through a harness, in the EX and other models, from dash to door. You can see where this is going, I hope.

Don't buy audio crap from best buy. I bought my Infinity Kappas for what they charge for the reference series. All I have to say is Amazon is god! Use crutchfield to find good parts and then find them at discount on Amazon. Hope all this helps at least a little.

Re: 97 Civic DX

Thanks for the reply.

I meant the air defrosters don't work. Like the rear works perfectly for the back window buy for defogging my windscreen and side windows the AC don't work to well.

I will most likely buy my audio system online, yes I still have all the wires. All they did was pop out the Kenwood my aunt had put in. She had the stock one swapped out years ago so she could listen to CD's

I do want to put in a system though like new speakers and a Sub.

And I want to do it all myself. My father knows how to do all this and more but he's in Jail. I have always wanted to be like him in the way of modifying cars.

Later on I would like to perform some Performance mods and replace my rusted Quarter Panels

In order to install power locks, windows, and mirrors you'll need several wire harnesses and parts including door lock actuators, mirrors, window motors, etc. You might find "kits" on eBay or forums that have all the parts for each of these.

I also recommend the Helms Factory Service Manual over Chilton's or Haynes.
