advice for my 98 EX civic

Hey guys, i'm new to this site, and new to hondas...
I'm an apprenticing mechanic so I know a bit about cars and I work on them all day long as my full time job, so I need some advice about this civic I just picked up. It's a 1998 EX SOCH Vtech coupe, with the d16y8 engine. The car is clean no rust and runs awesome it's why I bought it. Now is it worth putting any money into mods like intake exhaust ect on an engine with 226k miles? Or should I be thinking about a rebuild \ or swap?

Please leave comments any advice is much appreciated

Re: advice for my 98 EX civic

you could do minor boltons without any issues. a big tuneup would prolly help the most.

Re: advice for my 98 EX civic

I have heard that pacesetter cat backs have a really high pitched and annoying muffler/resonater and swapping just muffler helps sound
I also think AEM is the best intake brand personnaly
I have a 96 civic ex

I have the AEM short ram, works like a champ. my $.02 run the engine until it dies, but in the mean time, pick up a lower milage d16y8 and build it for boost. Swap in the new motor when the old one dies.

Pace setter is a lower quality system, all steel and will rust eventually. I would invest in some DC headers and a quality cat back. AEM is good quality and a short air for that car will give you about 6 hp or so.

Re: advice for my 98 EX civic

I'd like to hear several examples of an "motor dying." My 96 has 330k. At about 309k the #4 spark plug thread was "stripped" according to the dealer service tech. That may be the last time I take it to a dealer for a tune up because they 1st told me it's not worth fixing such an old car with a heal-a-coil type fix [sales tactic!]
They were able to re-thread a new plug and performance is fine but I'm worrying about the next plug change.

One time I had the dealer replace the valve cover gasket and about 1 month later I went to change out the plugs and plugs 2 and 3 were loose and covered with oil, they never tightened them down, luckily I noticed it. Also, the oil got under the plug wire boot and that came off as I pulled the wire out, that was fun trying to fish it out. I was wondering why the car would buck at a stop light at times.

As for the heal a coil fix I am not sure of the reliability, I am curious myself.
