Exhaust Manifold

A few months ago I noticed a whistling noise at a specific engine speed, usually about 2600 rpm, and usually when the car was cold. I looked everywhere, including this forum, to figure out what was wrong but didn't come up with anything. Then, last month I took it in for its 150000 mile service, and Honda said that it had a cracked exhaust manifold, and that it was probably what caused the noise. Replacing it fixed the problem. So if anyone else is having that problem or one that sounds similar, it may be worth taking the exhaust manifold's heat shield off and checking it out for cracks.

My civic is a 1998 with a D16Y7 engine.

Re: Exhaust Manifold

The Y7 is notorious for cracked manifolds. Thanks for posting that up.
