please help with my HX
please help with my HX
I just picked up a 97 HX from my dad and drove it down from LA this weekend. Yesterday I changed the plugs wires, cap , rotor, engine oil, oil filter, fuel filter, adjusted the timing and I adjusted the valves. The car currently has 192K miles on it, It has the CVT Auto tranny
Heres my problem, on my way from LA at the six flags going up hill. I was going 70 MPH steady and I noticed that my RPM was jumping about 500 rpm. I think between 2800-3200 RPM, but once it got flat or down hill it was fine. I also noticed that on a stop and go traffic when i let go of the gas and let the car cruise, I could feel the car tuggin, like it was down shifting. Today on my way to work, I noticed that my RPM jump from 200-800RPM, but it only does this when I'm seatting at a light. If I put the car in Park or neutral it idles fine. Then near my house I noticed that my RPM was jumping while accelerating and then once I hit about 50 MPH its fine.
I'm replacing the fluid this sat once I buy the CVT fluid from Honda.. What seems to be the problem? Transmission going out? Please suggest a place where I can buy a tranny. Would an EX tranny work? Will I need to replace the ECU?

Re: please help with my HX
Dude, if you were going to buy a car with that many miles, you should have bought a stick shift. CVT works with a series of belts on what could be called cone gears, those belt wear, I think that might be your issue. Just get the thing rebuilt...

Thanks, but I got the car for free from my dad. I was thinking of dropping an EX tranny, will it work? Do I need to change the ECU also?
Re: please help with my HX
i believe you can put in an ex tranny but you will need to chancge the ecu im not 100% sure on this but the cvt works letting your transmission rpm's be independent of your engine rpm's ie: you can rev the **** out of your engine and your tranny wil still spin the same speed. at least this is my understanding of how it works from what ive read, i have a 2000 hx with teh same tranny but from what ive seen getting them rebuilt or buying a new one they r hella expensive i would ask your local honda tech about havin to swap teh ecu if u go with the ex. the cvt is nice because it will give you optimum traction but wether its worth the money is your call
Re: please help with my HX
got in a crash n messed up the front end of my hx. i broke off 2 tranny mounts but other than that i think its fine however i am planning on parting it out if u want whats left of my cvt let me know

try to clean throttle body and related sensors. could just be clogged up, also idle surge can be caused by misadjusted TPS.
