Troubleshooting back up fuse current draw?
Civic Experts,
i have a current draw, draining the battery overnight and would like to ask for some help to figure this out.
I did the test, of pulling fuses and checking for current draw and found that it’s the Backup fuse. I’m getting about a 80 mA draw when that fuse is plugged in, and it goes down to 2, when I unplug it.
My question is, What checking/troubleshooting should I do next? What is that fuse powering that I could check? The radio doesn’t work when that fuse is out, but if I unplug the fuse for the radio, it still has the draw, so I don’t think it’s the radio.
Can you think of anything I can check, or have ideas as to what could be wrong?
What I’ve found on that fuse is that it powers the Immobilizer unit, multiplex control unit and some gauges. However, I don’t know how to disconnect these units, I don’t think there’s a fuse, I’m guessing I can’t just disconnect the multiplex control unit.
This seems like harder troubleshooting, does anyone have any ideas?
It’s a 2005 Civic Hybrid, 1.3 L, manual, 300K.
Thank you,

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one

You would have to pull the radio out and unplug it to prove anything of value here.

CVT trans control unit (TCM)
DLC (connector where you plug in a scanner--is there anything plugged into it?)
Keyless receiver unit
MCM (IMA system)
Plus, any aftermarket accessories? Alarm, remote start?
BHPH revenue assurance unit (GPS)

Re: Troubleshooting back up fuse current draw?
80ma draw times say 10hours overnight equals 800ma so less than one amp total.
If that little bit of current is killing your battery, bring a spare 9volt to boost it back up..
Pretty sure your actual drain is from somewhere else and it’s likely to be 10 times or more of a drain else your battery is just gone bad.
