Advice on buying a used 2004 Honda Civic?

I'm going in on Monday to look at a used 2004 Honda Civic Coupe EX. It has a manual transmission, and a 1.7L engine. The car has 110,000 miles. I've heard stories that this is a really good car, and stories that the engine is bad. So my question to you is, should I buy this car or not? Do you have any stories to share with me? I'm a college student and a mother, so I really need a car that's going to be reliable.

Also, I don't know if this is a common problem or not, but the dealer just e-mailed me to say that the A/C and cruise control is currently not working, but that they would fix it for me before I purchase it.

Re: Advice on buying a used 2004 Honda Civic?

I have a 2004, in my experience it has been a great car. Other than the normal maintenance items, the only things I've had to do were replacing the gas cap and having a crack in the exhaust manifold welded. I'm at 131,7XX right now, have had the car over 4 years and put about 60,000 miles on it. It has never let me down.
If you know about cars, just look everything over, check fluids, etc. If you don't then I would say take a friend who does or see if they will let you take it to a trusted mechanic for an inspection before you buy it.

Re: Advice on buying a used 2004 Honda Civic?

the engine is the most reliable part on the car people say the engine sucks only because its slow but its a civic there all slow. the only major issue with the 04 05 civics were the automatic transmissions but yours is stick so no worries. just make sure you make them give you a carfax report. also how much money .make sure the timing belt has been changed because its due for one. i own a 2004 vp automatic and i have had no major problems with the car just basic maintenance its got 150,000 miles on it.
