Hi guys
I recently bought a Honda Civic 2001 because I was sick and tired of putting 20$ of gas a day in my Grand Vitara SUV.
I bought the Civic for really cheap and I changed a lot of parts on it..transmission, exhaust manifold, brakes etc...
In the first 100 km that I did with this car, it took like 14 liters of gas. Is this normal? What do you guys recommend? I checked my tires and they are fine. The only thing that I haven't checked yet is the spark plugs. Do you think that they make that much of a difference in fuel economy?
Thank you very much for the help, it is really appreciated!

Thats the equivalent of around 17 mpg....only way that might be normal is if you were driving like a maniac, i average around 30.

It's cold in Ottawa, so longer warm up times combined with winter blend gas affects fuel economy a bit, not that much though. Is your air filter good, cat functioning, no 02 sensor codes?

The air filter has a huge impact on mileage, pick one up asap, I would change the spark plugs as well, that's one of the first things I do after purchasing any used car. Reset the idle as well since you've done quite a bit of recent work, that might help a bit.

My sister filled up 37 liters in my car today. It had only been driven 400 km :S My tires are a little big, so it's reading slow but not by that much!
Thats 10 km per liter. Not so good! Maybe once I change my filter it'll make a big difference..

Well you said it only seems to go down when the car has been sitting and then started, I would check for fuel leakage around the tank and lines etc.
