New to Me 75K Mile 2001 Sedan 5MT

I bought a 2001 manual sedan about two weeks ago from a Grandmother who used the car exclusively to drive to her dance lessons twice a week from the time she bought it new until she sold it to me. It is in fantastic shape, only 74K on it when purchased, now it has 75K!

Not new to Hondas, had an Accord and a 2000 Civic before this one, but new to this chassis. What are some things to keep an eye on/replace first? It is dark here and I don't have any pics on my phone (d'oh!) but I'll throw some up in the AM.

I'd like to build it to be a daily driver with some track capability. I love HPDEs and would like to take this every now and then to battle with my Miata buddies. I am thinking suspension, RPF1s with Proxes 888s, and maybe some BOOST later.

The Fuel Logs!

Welcome and great find!! I had 01 Sedan as well, it was a great car. Upper strut mount will probably start to rattle and you may have the head gasket issue down the road but I was fortunate with mine not to.

Was the timing belt done?

I have an upper strut tower bar for sale and rear sway bar, just saying lol

Concentrate on suspension first: adjustable coil-overs, optionally: adjustable (camber) trailing arms, wider rims/tires.

PS: you're a good boy to help your granny out as you did..I'm sure she appreciated those rides to dance lessons.

Timing belt has been done. All service records were included with the car, that includes each and every Gas Fill up in a little notebook.

Can you link to thread with the strut tower bar + rear sway?

Ha -- all good! What coilovers would you recommend? I'd like to keep it under a grand or so. I love how GolNat's old car looked, so it makes me think that I want to go with the KW V2s, but they are pricey!

The only car I've ever installed after-market struts/shocks on was an '07 Mazda 3. Installed Koni STr.t (orange) non-adjustable. The stock brand on that car was KYB and the STr.T's made a significant improvement in ride qaulity, handling and look (lowered from stock 1.5"-1.75"). Here they are for your car: https://www.tunersports.com/koni-str...23_p60548.html

Koni's have a lifetime warranty and they do honor that.
I purchased the same linked set about three years ago from Tuner Sports. Prior to purchasing them I called and spoke with the owner/manager and he gave me an additional 15% off. Even at the listed price they were priced lower than other stores online.
The springs that came with mine were H&R. The ones I linked may come included with H&R, Tien, Eibach or other known brand. Again, call them and ask which springs are include, expected height drop and possibility of an additional discount ...if you are interested in them. If you read the review on them that's mine...lol
Ask him if you can get them for $485 or lower..shipping is free.

Cool, I appreciate that. Those are definitely cheaper than most options I have looked at today, and I certainly wouldn't mind saving the money!

Re: New to Me 75K Mile 2001 Sedan 5MT

I bought my KW’s used and after having them rebuilt spent Between 1000-1200. They were awesome coilovers and I could tell where the money was spent on them. With buying them used and daily driving them when I took them off they cleaned up nice and still looked good. They are pricey which is why my Fit does not have KW. They were also very stiff for daily.

I have Tein Flex in my Fit and they have been great. A little on the soft side to go crazy low without rubbing but great for daily. I would highly recommend them or any of the other mentioned options.

I have a link with pictures I’ll post, no for sale thread at them moment.

Looks great by the way. You found the type of car that everyone dreams of. Grandmother owned and maintained!

I know it -- I couldn't believe my luck! My dad knows I like Hondas and said one of his dance friends was selling her Civic and did I want to check it out? Of course I did! She asked me for $2500 and I almost felt bad giving her exactly that.

And cool, feel free to PM me the link if ya want -- or post it!

Was your location there before lol? I might have missed that.

Also have camber arms which you will need when you drop it.

Edit: Also check out Progress Technology coilovers for your Civic. Those are what I was going to buy if I didn't end up with the KW's.
