My dog broke my radio...

Afternoon gents.

Pretty much as stated above my 6 month old pup put his paws on the buttons which led to the radio being "broken" or locked. I believe it pressed power button along with FM button as I heard a radio for a brief second before it got locked.

I have a european version of EM2 2001 but it seems the radio is not stock as it is a honda civic radio 6 disc cd mp3 1xc6.
At this point the radio displays six zero digits so I'm thinking it might be locked? (Pictures attached)
The strange thing is I had battery flat on this car many times and I never had to enter any type of codes so I'm still not sure if it got locked or whether it is damaged at this point. Also I'm a second owner of the car and don't have a radio code.

What I tried so far:
1) I downloaded a manual but there was nothing there that could help"
http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/pubs/AU/AAM35503.pdf

2) Removed audio Fuse to try to cut the power to the radio - it still "locked"

3) tried pressing various buttons to try to emulate wha my dog did.

4) Tried to get radio serial number bu pressing 1 and 6 and powering it on - didn't get any code. I read that this works for stock radios.

We have a holiday today so I can't even call a Honda dealer to see how much they charge for radio codes assuming that's the problem.

Does anyone have this type of radio and could give me a few tips what to do next?

Thanks

Looks like a SE stock head unit. There are sites that will get you the unlock code for <$20. Services like that can typically be purchased on ebay or directly from the websites...google "2001 honda civic special edition radio code" and see what comes up.

Good luck and remember YMMV...

Re: My dog broke my radio...

look under your engine bay fuse box cover. My original cover had the radio code on a sticker on it. You may get lucky and find one for yours.

Sounds like a good excuse for an aftermarket upgrade!

Re: My dog broke my radio...

Looks like our stock SE radios over here.

I didn't think it was possible to force an antitheft unit to lock unless battery power were removed.........and if it were locked, wouldn't it say CODE on the display?

So I wonder if it might be in a diagnostic or service mode.
Have you tried disconnecting the battery for about 15 minutes?

Couldn't find anything related to that model outside of one forum thread where a guy got his code from the dealership.
Will probably do the same. Thanks

Funny you should ask but it did a few times. It wasn't homework as I'm a bit too old for those but it did shredd a few pages of documents when it first learned how to jump on the desk using a chair. Probably should have left it at the shelter back then.

Ok thanks I will doubke check that but I did look at the diagram on the fuse box cover yesterday while looking for an audio fuse so I think i would spot any codes there. Will check again though. Thanks.

Yes it was pretty bizzare. It doesn't say CODE anywhere it just displays 5 zero digits and I can use presets buttons to change the digits. No other buttons except for presets, power and CD eject seem to work.
I didn't have a wrench on me so I was only able to remove the audio fuse yesterday. Will disconnect the battery today before I get to the dealer.

Thanks everyone will report back if I get to fix it.

Re: My dog broke my radio...

Back with an update.

I called my local dealer and when they heard it was a coupe version of civic they told me to contact Honda USA..........dumbasses..
I told him that it was a version that was sold in Europe so they told me to bring it in.
They tried to do combination of 1&6 with power on buttons to get the radio serial no. but that obviously didn't work as I tried that already.
Then he started browsing his database and statewd that according to his system this vehicle wasn't equipped with a radio at all and he couldn't help.....

I'm done with those asshats for now. I will try to get the radio out and look for the radio serial no.myself and then use a website or call the dealer again but I have 2 questions first.

1) Did 7th generation civic had models that were sold without any type of audio system???! It's hard to me to believe this.

2) Anyone know how to remove this type of radio without breaking it. It seems to be tightly fitted.

Thanks.

Re: My dog broke my radio...

I finally got it done.
I took the stereo out to get the radio serial no then used this site for the code https://radio-navicode.honda.com.
Had to find a US vin number though as the website didn't recognize mine.

I put the code in the radio and....nothing.

But then i started pressing various buttons and finally it unlocked.

Thanks for the help everybody.

Re: My dog broke my radio...

I replaced my battery the other day and my radio locked up lol. I had purchased an AM from Crutchfield a few months ago but wasn't motivated to install it. Needless to say I installed that puppy this weekend!
