2001 honda civic no crank no start

Ok working on my son's 01 civic 1.7litre. When you turn the key nothing happens at all. Battery, starter, ground wires all good or new. Can jump the car off the starter with key on and it runs fine. The only other thing I noticed once I got it running that way, was even in park the green light for drive was flashing. Any help on why it will not start with the key would be much appreciated!

Did the P light up?

Has fault code related to the transmission.

Read codes.

Yeah the p was lit also the d was flashing. Not sure on codes don't have a scanner wasn't sure if I should drive it with it started off the starter that way. Otherwise I'd run it up to Oreilys and check the codes.

Re: 2001 honda civic no crank no start

wasn't sure if I should drive it with it started off the starter that way.
If you know you can get the engine started, run it.

See if the PRNDL display still lights up all the correct letters as you move the lever.

Notice if the trans acts/shifts funny. If it's seriously wrong and scary to drive, don't drive it.
You can probably buy a simple code reader for less than 20 bucks.
