My first Honda!
My first Honda!
I bought a 2005 Honda Civic ES1 Ferio last month. It's Taffeta White. The car came with a 1.5 liter D15B (probably non-Vtec) engine. I'm not an expert on Honda Engines so I have a lot to learn. That's why I've joined this forum. I would love to get some tips from the members and mods of this awesome forum (that's you!)
I've always wanted a Civic
. I know it's old and it's not even a Vtec
but hey, it's a good start.
Did some routine maintenance on the car this month. Changed the oil, used a Castrol Edge 5W-40 A3/B4 Full Syn. Oil filter toyo roki. Found a leak in the engine head with the round plastic (black) seal. out a new rubber seal and the quick dry leak fix ( don't know what it's called, came in a tube )
Here are some pics

Welcome to the Forum.! Sakib kamal
for starters You did the right thing by changing Your oil to a European Spec A3/B4
synthetic engine Oil. 5w40 excellent film strength and all Year round protection
including winter. as far moding it for more power goes we can help You here.
Civics in general are great everyday reliable vehicles .

Re: My first Honda!
Nope... not at all see {ACEA European Oil standards} are different than North
american API/ILSAC don't let the higher numbers on these bottles scare You away, there actually light oils
to use in cold weather. for example: TOTAL 9000 5w40 A3 B4 oil is a class 4 Oil with a
better additive package & extended drain interval and can be used at -35 in winter months...
VS north american Oil

Re: My first Honda!
Sorry that total 5w40 is actually good till -45 its right on there
TOTAL 9000 Quartz web page. scroll down to the Pour Point it says -45
i would use this oil in my 8th gen if it weren't so pricey to buy anyway i don't
whant to start another oil thread.
Cheers...

Re: My first Honda!
So I could not find the ACTUAL Owner's Manual for my 2005 Civic ES1 type C on the internet ( not for free at least!) So here's the next best thing:
http://techinfo.honda.com/rjanisis/p...u/CV0505OM.pdf
It's for the 1.7 liter EU spec I think. And if you could kindly look at Pg 154 for ref. it says to use 5W-20 in these engines and that covers from -30C to 40C (-20F to 100F). I looked all over for 5W-20 but that kind of oil is not really popular in Bangladesh. Most people convert their cars to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) in the cities so people end up using oils like 20w-50! on 1300-1500 CC engines! I know... it's atrocious! The reason being engines burning CNG experience way more pressure and gaskets and seals just get ruined ANYWAY and so we end up overhauling our engines every 2-3 years. So.... cheap engine oil. My dad's Tercel '95 is a CNG converted vehicle and it has the 5E-FE engine in it now because we had to replace the 4E-FE due to above said issues.
Getting back to your question, 5W-40 A3/B4 seemed like a good choice. And the Honda original oil is TOO expensive here still. I bought the Castrol Edge 5w-40 for USD$55 and the same 5qt Honda Oil sells around here for USD$86.... I'd rather get something like Royal Purple for that money.

Re: My first Honda!
the reason why? EPA in North America wants us here to use thin 5w20 oil"s
like in my 8th gen Civic is mainly for fuel economy reasons that's it. if you
run a good Euro Synthetic like Quartz you will loose about half a liter or so
per Liter but get "muuch better protection Year round on the engine" VS using a
thin SAE/ILSAC North American Oil standards that we have in North America.
Euro Oil is read differently and definatley has a cleaner & better additive package for use.
Re: My first Honda!
Any Civic engine will run fine on 5w40 Not just in Bangladesh but all of
Europe. You see are north American SAE/ILSAC rated oil is behind and in
need of a overhaul/update best way I can describe it Compared to Europe's
ACEA Oil standard"s wich exceed are's here. manufactures like to run a
thinner oil for slightly better fuel economy & performance on a new car it
looks attractive on the cars window sticker when its new to buy. but in reality You
can use a good slightly thicker oil for better film strength & engine protection
all year round as long as its a A3 B4 ACEA Euro rated oil Your fine.

Re: My first Honda!
OK a little update!
I've been running heavily with Air Con On (between low and mid fan speed) and the fuel economy is so far 8 km per liter ( roughly). Also it should be noted that the traffic in my city is brutal, it's basically stop and go every 10 mins on average.
Been watching ChrisFix on youtube for months now.
Tomorrow my baby gets clay bar treatment and then waxed. I'm super excited I'll post some before n after pics
