2005 Acura EL Upstream O2 Sensor

My just came on in my 2005 EL and it threw the code P0134 - 02 Sensor Circuit No Activity Detected (Bank I Sensor 1).

I've been reading that the expensive Honda OE sensors are manufactured by Denso but am having a hard time finding the right one. The Denso website shows nothing for 2005 Acura EL when I search so I looked at sensors for 2005 Civic EX and still not finding the correct one.

Can one of you Honda nerds (*cough* ezone) please point me in the right direction?

I bought the Oxygen sensors (Primary and Secondary) from Autozone. O'Reilly also have them.

Re: 2005 Acura EL Upstream O2 Sensor

After some more research I found the Bank I sensor is actually an air fuel ratio sensor.

Went for a drive today and the CEL isn't on anymore and I didn't clear codes with scanner.

Look up the Honda/Acura part number for the AF sensor
then google the denso part number cross reference guide (It's huge, use CTRL + F to search the document)

Re: 2005 Acura EL Upstream O2 Sensor

OK I found the right sensor (Denso 234-9017). $187 Canadian dollarydoos

Is it common for these sensors to die over time and cause issues down stream with the secondary O2 sensor or catalytic converter?

Is it a good idea to replace it ASAP given that my disappeared on it's own the next day or just wait and see if the same thing happens in the future?

Sure

IMO no
or catalytic converter?
IMO not usually, but possible depending on the failure: If a failure caused some extreme rich or lean condition, maybe.

Also note, catalyst monitoring by the PCM is suspended while AF and O2 fault codes are present. The cat could go bad or be ruined for any reason, but the PCM can't see/test it until all sensors are working again.

Sup to you. I'm gonna guess the code will return soon, intermittently working is still a failure.

Re: 2005 Acura EL Upstream O2 Sensor

This was my situation also. The engine light would go on and then off randomly. Sometimes for a whole day but it was always back on without delay.

After replacing the sensor it was all good. Just make sure you get the correct one for your car. I got this one from amazon https://www.amazon.com/Denso-234-901.../dp/B00122EENE
It is the same part number I used, and was exactly the same as the one that came off the car.

Re: 2005 Acura EL Upstream O2 Sensor

That's the exact one I'm looking at: https://www.amazon.ca/Denso-234-9017.../dp/B00122EENE

My hasn't returned yet. I went to Honda to get a price on JUST the sensor - over $500 after taxes

I think I'll take my chances with the one from amazon LOL.

Re: 2005 Acura EL Upstream O2 Sensor

Alright I got the new sensor installed and no CEL yet.

I noticed after the car had sat a day or two it's starting a little rough needing another crank or two from the starter. Related to new sensor possibly?

Doubt it, probably just from sitting. Check your connections, make sure they're tight and corrosion free. How old is the battery? Alternator good?

It's been cold the past few mornings in my area, maybe the car just isn't happy
