1999 Honda Civic HX Electrical Issues. Please Help !!

So i am having similar problem as the guy below from different forum, except that my stereo mysteriously turns off and on and my headlight flickers alot too. Any help would be appreciated.

Ps. I hope the ground isnt loose

"Hi guys,

Bout a week ago my SRS light on my '99 LX was coming on and going off randomly, so a guy I work with checked it for me and said

the alternator was overcharging. That would explain it too because all of the exterior lights including the dashboard lights were

flickering constantly. So, I bought and installed a new alternator but the problem is still there. I tested the electrical system and it is

still overcharging, even after buying a new alternator. And, I've tried putting a new battery in the car, but it did not fix the issue. Does

anyone know what else can be causing the new alternator to be overcharging?

Thank you,
Colin

I guess its charging normal. I am getting 13.6 volts when car is on. So my alternator seems fine. I discussed my issue with one of my friends and he told me to clear my ground connections. Below attached are the picture of the ground terminal.

Also are there any other grounds besides the one from battery to the chassis ?

Also could this be happening due to bad power distributor ? ( read this from a different forum)

Another possible reason that i can think of could be the wires coming out from the fuse box under the hood ???

13.6 volts is pretty much normal, not overcharging at all,

(going by the second pic) that does not look like a very good ground connection, i am not an expert on the 99's, but i dont think thats where the battery ground normally goes to from the factory,

that looks like a "home made" job to me....the main ground from the battery should go to a good grounding spot on the frame of the car, that is just attaching to the fender, doesnt look good to me

Definitely a home job, there should be a ground to the motor also. If i remember correctly it's on the bracket attached to the transmission.

Homemade job ?? This is how i bought this car

Is there a way i can get some sort of picture as to where should i attach the ground from the battery ? Also I think there is another ground that connects motor to the frame of the chassis, but could that be the problem or is it just this wire, because my radio flicker's and so do my headlights and not to mention the SRS light.

??

You bought a USED car, not a new one.

The cable ends at the battery are universal parts store type replacements. Nothing wrong with them really, if done properly and taken care of.

The end of the neg cable attached to the body near the battery is what looks like an original end with the little alignment ear sticking off the side of it.

IS it in the correct place?? Who cares. All it has to do is make the connection and allow plenty of current flow.
Electricity does not care.
It could be connected to a seat frame or in the trunk and work just fine if done correctly.
Connections need to be clean, shiny metal-to-metal contact with plenty of surface area making the connection. Bolt, eyelet, and sheetmetal all should be clean and free of corrosion wherever electricity needs to flow. (Paint can insulate and stop current from flowing.)

(It is actually connected in the right spot, the strut tower.)

----------------------------------------------------------
OP: The other large and important powertrain grounds are

Body to engine, drivers side, cable at the headlight support area to the power steering pump bracket

Body to transmission, passenger side front, frame rail to a bracket on top of the trans underneath the lower radiator hose (may be hidden underneath the air breather boxes).

So I just took the negative cable out from the battery and cleaned the white stuff that was on it and also took it out from the fender and saw that the bolts/washer and the frame; were all touching metal-to-metal.

Yesterday and this morning it wasn't that bad. I have seen the SRS light in the past 24 hours nor did i notice the flickering headlights but my radio does flicker every now and then

ps. I haven't installed sub and or amp yet but was planning to do this this weekend

So what else could be the problem if the ground connection from the battery is good ?
