Expanded Recall 01-03 models
For Immediate Release
Statement by American Honda Motor Co., Inc., Regarding
Driver’s Airbag Inflator Recall Expansion
TORRANCE, Calif. – Dec. 1, 2011 – Honda has expanded a previously announced recall of certain 2001 through 2003 model-year Honda and Acura vehicles to replace the driver’s airbag inflator originally installed in approximately 273,000 additional vehicles sold in the U.S. Affected driver’s airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, which can cause the inflator casing to rupture and could result in injury or fatality.
Separately, Honda has also determined that approximately 640 affected driver’s airbag service parts were sold for installation in vehicles for collision repair or other vehicle service. Because Honda is unable to determine the specific vehicles that may have received the affected service parts through existing information, Honda will inspect an additional approximately 603,000 vehicles and replace those parts as necessary.
This recall now includes certain 2001 and 2002 Accord, 2001 to 2003 Civic, 2001 to 2003 Odyssey, 2002 and 2003 CR-V, 2003 Pilot, 2002 and 2003 Acura 3.2 TL and 2003 Acura 3.2 CL vehicles.
Honda is aware of several incidents related to this recall and expansions, and is announcing this further recall expansion to encourage all owners of included vehicles to take their vehicle to an authorized dealer as soon as they receive mailed notification from Honda. Notification to the expanded group of customers will begin in late December 2011.
When Honda identifies concerns of this nature, nothing is more important to the company than fulfilling our obligation and responsibility to alert our customers. To this end, in addition to contacting customers by mail, in late December, owners of these vehicles will be able to determine if their vehicles

NEW airbag recall december 2011 MUST REPLACE
i know its getting hard to tell them apart, but i just received the latest and most serious version. this is a huge recall and affects many models and years of honda including 01-02 accords, 01-03 civics, 01-03 odyssey, 02 crv, and 03 civic hybrid. again due to a problem with the driver airbag inflator being too powerful that it could rupture and cause metal fragments to impact the driver.
previous recalls stated that if the car contains the original factory airbag, you were fine. NOT the case with the latest recall, which states that you MUST have your driver airbag inflator replaced...free of charge...even if it was previously determined the inflator did not need replacing. as of now, the inflator MUST BE REPLACED, period! i would recommend visiting the nearest dealer to see if your car qualifies under the recall, as many people do not get paper recall notices. i received one, but i am also the 1st and only owner of the car so my address is still on file with them.

Re: Expanded Recall 01-03 models
just made an appt for friday to get my inflator replaced. this applies even if you are sure the car has the original new srs parts. im also wondering how they came up with a 30 min labor time. dealer here says it shows 2 hrs for labor rate to replace the part. they do need to order a vin specific part for the recall, so dont go in the same day expecting them to fix it.
