mashing the gas climbing a hill, and making as much noise as a jet airplane, while doing 10mph under the speed limit lol
Re: You know you own a 7thgen when...
I got a great one for y'all. I drive a 2001 civic lx automatic, had about 104,000 miles on it when i got it. About two weeks after, the trans went out. A year later was doing the headgasket, waterpump, timing belt. Only to have it done again by a much more affordable and honest mechanic. Sadly I imagine that headgasket will slowly fade (small amounts of lost fluid).
You know you own a 7th gen civic when.. you're car dies, you test the battery on car the car, its drained. Take it to get it charged (an hour minimum), install it, car still wont start. Test the alt on the car, fails indicative tests. Remove alternator, passes bench test. Take back home to reinstall only to break plastic shroud off of power lead on the alt, blowing two fuses before completely realizing. Take it back and get it replaced as defective (with some opposition from unnamed store). Replace the alt, the alt cable and the 80 amp fuse and reinstall powersteering pump, only to break the stupid "wingbolt" tensioner for the ps belt. Replace with hex bolt (good idea from a DIY on this site), and go to start it up. Starts up now but squeals like hell, wouldnt you know my belt was off just a little (rookie mistake). Ay yi yi. So i redo it for what feels like the 6th time (replaced the other stupid alt wingbolt along the way), and it still squeals like hell. I said f'it, the squeal would go away at 3000 rpm (figured it out trying do the idle relearn). Ive checked the tensions and they all seem tolerable and yet it squeals. Go out to start it today, cranks but wont start. After all that turmoil and two days lost at work. A now today a third friggin gift from my civic.

you can change the bushings in the seat and it will fix it for a few weeks. i just live with it, or you can look for an aftermarket seat

Ha! An OLD man in a Prius almost beat me to the punch on the way home from work today. Had to take it to 6K rpm in 1st thru 3rd. He was so old he seriously looked half dead already. And he had handicap plates. lol

Lol, my dad told me the other day at the dinner table that the prius were 110 hp
My reaction:

The 7thgen LX is like what?
115hp ??
My goodness, they ARE tough competition =/

Re: You know you own a 7thgen when...
do any of you get pretty noticable sqeaks coming from the lower back of the car (seems in tire wells but not sure) when getting up and out of your car sometimes? Then when you put your weight down on the seat, it does it again.
I checked all my bushings and all are tight as hell. Im wondering if this is just a common tendency for our cars.

Re: You know you own a 7thgen when...
Mine has so many squeaks, rattles, and pops I just gave up. Sounds like you need new struts and/or springs. The OEM springs on these things are crap. Mine last about 50K around here.
Re: You know you own a 7thgen when...
That most likely would be the springs hey? Im still using the stock ones, on all 4.
If I get coilovers though, then that cancels out my need for new springs right?
Or what if i got aftermarket springs that arent as long as stock? so the car sits lower. is there even such thing?

Re: You know you own a 7thgen when...
you have to look at the actual dyno curves to understand why. prius and other hybrids have the electric motor adding massive torque in the lower rpms which gives it way better accel compared to most gas econoboxes. the chevy volt has 200 ft/lbs torque at 100 rpm (yes, one hundred) and can make short work of most cars on the road. the hp doesnt really come into play til you get the rpms way up to 6k and even then unless you are racing for over a mile, you would never see the benefit.

Re: You know you own a 7thgen when...
Why is it every smartcar I see is going like 80mph? Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose? Same with a lot of the hybrid owners- they race from light to light like the rest of us.
btw: You ever wonder what the carbon footprint of battery factories is? Not to mention that we get most of our power from coal burning plants, which have a huge carbon footprint. At least with nuclear energy you can contain the pollution but, nobody will vote for more nuclear power, especially after the Fukushima meltdown.
Enough of the thread jack: You know you own a 7th gen when every 18 year old who sees it begs you to sell it to them. At least I know I won't have a problem selling it. lol

I drove the Volt on a AutoX course a couple months back, fun little car, but when they told me it has a 50mile range on a full charge and it takes 8 hours to charge on a 110v, i was like

you subconsciously calculate your MPG value every time you look down at your gas gauge
You see 7th gen coupe tails from afar, struggle to drive up closer, only to realize it's a ford focus

When you've never actually locked the door from the outside and after owning it 4 years try it just to see if it will lock. You can guess the outcome. lol.
