P0740 Torque Converter Clutch Circuit Malfunction

My daughter's car that I am still in the process of restoring (would have finished a few weeks ago if it wasn't for getting ripped off by PitchBlack aka Tim VanMeter of Fort Wayne, Indiana) just threw this code. The transmission shifts just fine (no slipping or rough shifts) so if anyone here has a crystal ball and can tell me how quickly these transmissions fail once the dreaded P0740 code illuminates I'd appreciate it. Maybe I can teach my daughter to drive & love driving a manual before it gives up the ghost.

104 views and no one has had a similar issue? I've read numerous threads and everyone talks about the problem, but no approximate time frame.

Can the 105th viewer possibly have any insight? Pretty Please!

Thanks HLC. The transmission, isn't actually the original. It was rebuilt about 2 years ago by a local rebuild shop. I'm not against having it rebuilt again with better than OE parts. I was just wondering, if anyone here can remember approximately how long it took for theirs to crap out once the P0740 code showed it's ugly face.

might as well swap to a manual, its much much more reliable than the auto and won't crap out on you. i think somwhere around 80k miles the auto's crap out. i may have seen as early as 60k but i'm not too sure. i've just passed 80k on my manual and it's not stopping anytime soon.

oh and theres really not "better than oe parts" for the trans.

If you're getting it rebuilt, i advise you to replace the Torque Converter. I personally rebuilt mine 2 weeks ago. Also flush out the tranny cooler completely to get rid of the debris sitting in the rad.
