d17a2 rebuild
d17a2 rebuild
hey guys i am looking into rebuilding my d17a2 i am boosting right now at around 7 p.s.i but its still not enough power the motor is still stock with a small t25 turbo on it is there any ideas as of wut i should do to get more power out of that motor????thanks alot........
Re: d17a2 rebuild
I would do some head work like a port and polish, stage 2 turbo cam and springs/retainers, ARP headstuds and rods, and of coarse kpro is a must. What turbo kit do you have? specs on what you have so far?
Re: d17a2 rebuild
i have a turbo specialties kit on it not really sure wuts all done to the car i just bought it but from wut i can tell it has pullys, cold air, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump thats about it.....do u think i should still run the stick pistons....thanks alot for the help not really sure where i should start so any help is well appreciated
Re: d17a2 rebuild
I have never had a turbo in any of my cars, but 135 hp doesn't sound right to me. MY friend had access to a dyno so I put my car on there. Its said i had like 105hp(OH YEEAH!). So just a 30hp gain of a turbo setup sounds insane. There must be something missing here. You need help from the turbo gurus in the turbo/swap section. They will be able to narrow your problem down. Keep us posted on the build.

Re: d17a2 rebuild
if you did a compression test and one cylinder was 50psi lower, something is wrong, either you have a bent valve, blown head gasket, bad rings, or cracked block/head for a rebuild i would probably get another d17a2 block and rebuild that while you can still drive yours, go over it, remove the head, inspect the valve seats, check cylinder walls, if need be, replace rings and headgasket

Re: d17a2 rebuild
Your car is in trouble if your boosting and you have low compression in a cylinder. Take the turbo off and find out what's wrong before you lose you're whole engine. You just need a tune once its fixed a t25 is caple of making decent power on your car at 7lbs. You should be up to the 160-180hp range.
