Re: Has anyone done this before??

there is nothing you can do. if you are lucky ...it might barely have clearance over the intake, but it will probably be rubbing on it. after a while it will keep rubbing and it will grind grind grind.

i have a obx racing strut tower and it fits and goes above my intake but it rubs. i had to take it off after a month because both the bottom of the strut tower, and the top of the intake pipe were grinding away at each other. since they are both aluminum, it is almost grinded completely through the intake pipe now, but i should be fine since i removed the strut tower.

you can try and see what happens, but you will most likely have to choose one or the other. most people choose the intake. just remember, even if its just a little tiny bit of rubbing, it will be way way worse when the engine torques back and forth so it will get worse and worse.

Re: Has anyone done this before??

that sucks lol....i mean the strut bar isnt straight flat across its goes up a little and straight lol..but it probably wouldnt fit.....if it doesnt fit i might just go with the stock intake or just forget about the strut bar lol.......thanks for the info..

Oh for ****'s sake. If the pipe is too long/tall, then cut it. Since the short ram hits the strut bar, whack a half inch off the bottom of the short ram (where it mates to the TB) so the intake doesn't come up so high.

Exactly.. That would be my approach as well. Wrenchin on cars isnt about buying a bunch of pretty bolt on **** and slappin it on there - unless you want to get laughed at.. C'mon man, you gotta dive in and get your feet wet! I'm not encouraging a valve job here, but you know what I'm gettin at

Re: Has anyone done this before??

Or just do what I did, learn from a mistake and but a neuspeed strut bar, it works great with any SRI.

Re: Has anyone done this before??

exactly, if you want there are only two ways around it. you can either get a DC Sports strut bar, or a Neuspeed strut bar. both of those will accomodate the intake. since you already bought the strut bar you have shipping, i doubt youll do that.

do what speedfoos said and cut half an inch to an inch off the bottom of the intake (the part that connects to the car) and it will still work just fine. if i had an aem intake, that is EXACTLY what i would do.

the reason i cant get my strut bar on is because i have cut off all i possibly can from my intake (up to the part where it starts to curve) and its still too high because my intake pipe is way fatter than the aem ones.

What kinda intake you runnin tuned? WeaponR? I wonder if you could put some fender washers or something on that strut bar to get you that extra bit of clearance you need? You could slap 'em down on the strut with some RTV or something to get a good 'grip'..? Just a thought

Re: Has anyone done this before??

Why is this so hard for people to figure out......

I have the AEM SRI, I have the MEGAN strut bar (a flat strut bar). The strut bar will rotate, just rotate it forward.....
This did not require a college education to figure out, I promise.

Matt, your engine bay always makes me smile when I see my old VC, strut bar, and header.

Re: Has anyone done this before??

v84lunch, if i did that, yes it would clear the intake, but then the hood wouldnt close. i have also tried what alpha5 did but it wouldnt work either because right when you go to rotate the bar forward, it wont really go because it wants to rotate the entire rings that mount on the vehicle, and i dont want to force it to bend. if that makes any sense.

Re: Has anyone done this before??

well yeah i did that, and i could loosen it enough so the bar does rotate, but then when i tighten the nuts again, they will not be clamped on it squarely, know what i mean? they will be clamped on the bar the way you see in that little sketch. theres no way around it. yours kind of looks like its like that in the picture but its hard to tell without a closeup.
