Ipod in civic help!

Re: Ipod in civic help!
i dont recommend an fm transmitter because of the distorted cracked sound and the hassle of searching and connecting..just buy an after market head unit with an auxiliary input..i once bought a sony deck for under 90 bucks...that is if you dont care about quality..
Re: Ipod in civic help!
youre gonna need a head unit with an aux. in. hole so you can connect an auxillary cable to the headphone input on your ipod..yes your other option is buying an fm modulator but i dont recomend it because of the quality..higher end head units include usb connections with ipod driver support but thats more expensive...
Re: Ipod in civic help!
Here are the steps to making this work:
1. Go to Best Buy.
2. Say, "I would like an FM modulator for my iPod."
3. Produce payment.
Re: Ipod in civic help!
simple way:
if you want an fm transmitter, you can get them on ebay for cheap. they just plug to your cigarette lighter adapater, you set the radio frequency, and tune your stereo to it. very simple. they also charge your itouch while its in there. like this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/FOR-IPOD-TOUCH-I...d=p3286.c0.m14
if you are worried about ebay quality, you can to bestbuy, futureshop, visions, etc and get something like this. its the exact same thing, just more expensive so APPARENTLY that means its 'better' but its up to you.

not as simple way:
the best thing you should do so that you dont have to worry about the sound quality is just get a better deck. instead of buying that best buy transmitter for 100+$ i would just buy a deck. i bought my pioneer deh-5900ib on ebay for something like 75$ and its an amazing deck. it has a wire that comes right out of the back and sits right by my cup holder. it plugs right into the ipod. its also nice because you have nothing big and bulky sticking out of your cigarette lighter.

Bluetooth FM Transmitter
Not sure if the touch has bluetooth but this is what i have with the touchscreen lg dare w/ 8 gig card. Its really great for a lot of reasons. I don't have to worry about people smashing my windows to get my deck 'cause it looks like a garage door opener. Push two buttons and it announces one of the multiple stations to turn to so you can get the best connection and keep it. All call are transmitted through it. It also has a speaker in the unit so you don't have to hook it up through the car speakers. You won't ever get as good of quality as a direct connection, but it's easy, cheap, and secure...

best way......http://usaspec.com/vehicle_products.php
the fm mod idea is ok if you use a wired fm mod....audiovox fmm100. absolutely no interference but has a toggle to turn it off...it would not let any fm through if left on because it is so strong.
or a new radio....probably the cheapest way out. the usaspec is the best but comes priced accordingly....about 170. audiovox fm mod is 50 but is somewhat of an inconvenience. new radio in that car is about 130 and 40 in parts. sony 430 ftw.

Re: Ipod in civic help!
if this is the radio/fm modulator, they are not very good. if thats the only way, then you are kinda stuck. i have this installed in our 92 accord to a cd changer and the quality isnt great but gets the job done. they didnt want to change the stock deck and it doesnt have a cd changer port to tap into. if you have the EX cd player, it does have a cd changer port and they sell conversions for that to use your ipod. much better than fm modulation.
Re: Ipod in civic help!
Gearbox, great reply. Does this diagram apply to a (2002) stock cassette head unit, or just the CD-capable head unit? I'm trying to hook my ipod up to my cassette HU, but want to keep the HU looking as stock as possible (fear of it getting jacked).

Re: Ipod in civic help!
only the cd units have the extra cd changer port you can use. unfortunately, there is no way to do that with cassette unless you use those crappy adapters that go in like a tape. another idea is to keep the stock deck for looks, and get a nice aftermarket piece you can hide somewhere and then it will be very easy to hook up any mp3 player. it doesnt even have to be accessible, since you will be using the mp3 player and wont need to adjust anything from the deck itself. glove box, under the seat, etc. also another option would be to keep the tape deck and get the add-on honda cd player which goes underneath it. then you at least have cd capability. its just a separate piece with single cd slot and eject button. they are around $80

Re: Ipod in civic help!
I just regret buying a FM transmitter.
Now I am planning to change my stock cd player to a new one which supports ipod.
But how can I control my music? do I need to do that through my ipod?
Because it's just an audio in from my ipod/mp3 player. Even after I turn off the car, my ipod/mp3 player is still running and I don't want to turn off/on my ipod/mp3 every time I turn off/on my car.

Re: Ipod in civic help!
alot of newer aftermarket units are "ipod ready" which means with the proper kit, the radio can control the ipod i believe. check out alpines new decks. imm not exactly sure how it works, but its definately different than just using an aux input to plug to the ipod speaker jack.
Re: Ipod in civic help!
i have a pioneer deh-5900ib and its ipod ready. its a very nice feature. it came with a wire that plugs into the aux in the back of the deck, and the wire plugs right into an ipod. i have the wire connected to the deck and it comes down and is sticking out of the side of the console. its very hidden and you cant even tell its there. once you plug it into the ipod, all your music is controlled through the deck. you can cycle songs/artists/playlists and everything else you can normally do through your ipod manually. its just controlled by the deck instead.
Re: Ipod in civic help!
I mean not only ipod, how about any other external mp3 player?
I saw some even has an usb interface, and I can imagine that will work in my case.
(using an extension usb cord connects with the usb interface at the back, and this extension cord will sit in my glove box. So I can connect a 2.5" hard drive --- about 30gb, and it holds 1000 songs)

Re: Ipod in civic help!
alot of decks have front mount usb for flash drives, thats the best imo. but even rear usb is nice. most aftermarket decks have a cd changer that you can buy an adapter for that converts the cd changer to a stereo mini. but theres no control, it just streams music to the stereo. have to control from the mp3 player. the only problem i imagine you would have with such a big hard drive is finding songs. it may be too distracting.
Re: Ipod in civic help!
that's true, usually 512mb is the best size.
holding approximately 100 songs and change all of them at once when you're tired of them.
That's why I still have my 512mb ipod shuffle.
I must have a usb connection for it will keep charging the mp3 player and thus save my time to charge it separately.

Re: Ipod in civic help!
i tried the cd changer to stereo cable for my mp3 player and it sucked. very bad quality and low volume. so i suggest getting a deck with usb input or just using mp3 cds. i had a cd changer hooked up before and quality was perfect, just a hassle to change cds and the deck controls were slow and lagging. so i just stick with 700mb mp3 cds in the deck.
Re: Ipod in civic help!
i agree thats the easiest thing as well. just burn a whole bunch of mp3s onto a cd and put that into your deck. you can fit tonnes of songs on one cd and its simple to flip through and control it all. when you want new music just make a new cd. it wont really cost you anything either. i do that more often than i use my ipod hookup.
