02 vic misfiring

anyone have any idea why a 2002 honda civic is misfiring when cold and then stops misfiring when it's warmed up. I had a constant check engine light staying on but when I brought it to honda they said its misfiring but can't figure it out cuz it is fine when it's warmed up. Honda has had it for almost a week now and they still can't figure out the problem with it.

so far, I've had the coils on cylinder 2 and 3 replaced, new headgasket, new cat replaced under warrenty.

any suggestions? the car felt fine I just had the crappy check engine light on, didn't feel like I lost any power or anything, I'm just afraid that they won't be able to find the solution and ill be stuck with a crappy 3 1/2 cylinder car forever.

What was the CEL for? Did you change the plugs? 9 times out of 10 a misfire is just a plug that is fouling out.

the code they gave me at autozone was #302 I believe, basically it said, misfire cylinder 2. yeah when I had the headgasket replaced I had to change all the plugs out too cuz they were fouled out, this is less than 10k miles ago.

Re: 02 vic misfiring

there goes my idea of bad headgasket. thats the only thing i could think of is coolant seeping in the cylinders when cold, but then once the engine warms up the coolant burns off and the car runs fine. what do your plugs look like? you may also have a clogged cat.

Re: 02 vic misfiring

clogged cat with just a misfire on cylinder 2?, to be honest I don't have the car any longer I brought it down to honda to diagnose but the plugs are less than 6 months old. If I had the cat replaced under warrenty 6 months ago and my car fell outta warrenty will they still honor a new one, on the receipt it says that they honor their labor and work for 12 months or 12k miles whatever comes first. if the cat is bad again I'll probably have them fix it and put it up for sale, they must be some underlying problem that isn't resolved.

Re: 02 vic misfiring

its possible the car is running rich and ruining the cat or sensors. if they have a warranty on their work, they should replace it no problem. otherwise the standard federal emissions warranty is 8 yrs or 80k miles.

phew, I think I have 79xxx on my car now, either way I hope its not the cat, going through a cat every 6 months is not too cool.
