Engine Swap?
Engine Swap?
Hey people!
K so i'm thinking about swaping my D17A1 outa my 2002 DX (coupe) but I dont know what kind of engine to look into, as in no idea where to start, there are too many kinds and i dont know what fits my car unless it's stated in the description of the engine. I dont look forward to spending anymore than $900, more like a $500-800 swap, I am not looking for a HUGE upgrade in HP/TQ, i just want a decent upgrade with one big install, rather than spending the same amount of money on little bolt ons that may or may not give me my desired HP/TQ. (i dont have money for a turbo kit unless somehow i'm missing something and i can actually get one for less than 900)
any help would be appreciated...
P.S. I think a civic SI's engine would be a good switch? bc those are a lot faster than a DX...

Re: Engine Swap?
On that kind of budget you could swap ur head for v-tec but thats about it. Ur reality is the same as mine (Im a dx owner aswell) if you want ur car to produce noticable gains you'll have to spend some $$$ and swap or boost..... ect. I/H/E are ur basic bolt-on options but have minimal gains on a d17a1.
If ur not prepared to spend some money and you dont have the diy skills I suggest you make ur vic fun to drive in others ways that fit ur budget, suspension, short shifter, audio upgrade.. ect.
GL with ur search

Re: Engine Swap?
a k swap is probably not realistic with your budget. from what i've found, k swaps are gonna probably cost somewhere around 4 or 5k give or take, unless you can find a junked rsx or si or something. just my $.02
Re: Engine Swap?
You not gonna get any motor for that price..... only option is the vtec head,
You cant place any other engine then a K20a as it's way to expensive and complicated to try and fit a another D/B/F...Etc, engine into our civic's.
Cheapest way to make power is Boost i'm soon to take on this task but will see how it goes, as for I/H/E minimal gains 10HP at the MOST! the only way you'd really wanna do these is for noise and looks.
As for $$ on all a turbo will probs cost around $3k for 5PSi on stock internals and the k20 swap anywere upwards of $5k so really its expensive to tune these motors....

Re: Engine Swap?
Ouch,
Well thanks for the harsh reality guys, looks like if I want to supe up my car i shoulda bought an LX/EX/SI huh? damn... well too bad i'm about to head into college and i dont have 5k to spend on my car : \
I guess i will just go for looks then, maybe make my car LOOK fast rather than actually be fast, idk what to get exactly because I dont want a spoiler because 1. they can be a little pricey and 2. they are very ricey (hey that ryhmes) imho. And lip kits are hard to match to my paint job because I dont think it's a stock silver, i've already bought smoked headlights / taillights and some interior LEDs... anyone have any ideas as to what i could do besides those things, for looks? (i dont want a sound upgrade with a new muffler because i like to speed / have illegal tint on, so a noise violation + two tickets for those others would hurt bad)

Re: Engine Swap?
Well, lip kits do look good in black.... and err you could get some skirts.... drop your ride too 40mm should look sweet.
Noise wise induction kits are good, only make noise when you really floor it so wont attract to much attension.
And what about the stock EX spoiler? i like it..... but each to there own.
