WTF are the stereo plug looking things next to my cigarette lighter?


Since I bought my car, my right turn signal blinks very rapidly. It's really annoying. My dealer told me there was nothing wrong with the fuses... If I put my hazards on, both sides blink together at the normal rate... How can I fix it?

The last thing is that my 7.5 interior fuse (located under the hood) keeps blowing. I have LEDs in both my front map light and rear dome light. I also have cold cathodes in my trunk. I have gone through about four fuses. Everything works fine and suddenly all the lights stop working and the fuse is blown. It has lasted as long as a week and as little as a day... I don't drive with them on or anything... Any suggestions or fixes?

The stereo jacks are probably for a DVD player hookup, or maybe ipod interface?

as far as i know those shouldnt be there. maybe the guy who had the car before you put them there so easyer access to hooking up an amp. what kind of head unit do you have?

I was waiting for someone to tell me to search. Sorry. As for returning the car, I like it; the manual transmission is fun to drive. I just had some minor annoyances that I wanted some help with...

It's a Sony CDX-F5510. I was thinking that it was something for the stereo...

whether your lights hyperblink or not, your hazard lights will always blink at a normal rate. there are two reasons a car might hyper blink. one is that you have leds installed as your brake/parking/turn signals etc etc. they suck out such little power, that your car barely detects them even being there, so it thinks your light is burned out. when your light is burned out, it hyper blinks to let you know you have to change the bulb. the other reason that a car hyper blinks is because you actually have a burned out light bulb.

i think in your case you do have a burned out bulb, because your car is only hyper blinking on the one side. if you had leds installed, both sides would hyper blink. check your right side parking light, turn signal on both front and back, and your back brake lights for any burned out light bulbs. if they all look good, get someone else in the car to press down the brake pedal so that you can check for both regular and the brighter filament on your brake lights which you cant really check on your own...unless you back up real close to a wall or your garage door and check for brightness behind you.

and as for those plugs, those were definitely installed by whoever had the car before you. all you should have there is the cigarette lighter power source, and another little piece of flat black plastic that you can remove to install something like a switch of your choice. those plugs are definitely audio/video or some type. i would remove that piece and check behind if you really care that much.

Anyone have any clues about how I can stop my fuse from repeatedly blowing? Is it true that if I put a bigger one in, it won't blow?

well thats true yes, but dont do that.

the reason you have a certain sized fuse is so that it DOES blow before you blow anything else in your vehicle.

like if something has a 15 amp fuse, 20 amps of power may blow whatever it is that your fuse is protecting, hence the reason for having a 15 amp fuse. you can blow a thousand fuses but at least whatever it is youre using your fuse to protect is still safe.

lets say for example, your 15 amp fuse was protecting something electrical that could only withstand 16 amps before blowing. if you placed a 25 amp fuse in that 15 amp fuse spot....the new 25 amp fuse will allow 25 amps through it before blowing. so lets say 22 amps ends up going through, youre going to blow or fry whatever it is that your fuse is supposed to be protecting, because it was only able to handle 16 amps of power (the reason you had a 15 amp fuse before). having a bigger fuse than you should basically defeats the purpose of having a fuse there at all.

what you can do is look on the lid of your fuse box, and it will say what the fuse size should be for that particular spot. make sure you do have the proper fuse in first. otherwise, im not sure why it would keep blowing, you must have an issue somewhere along the circuit..

unTuned, thanks. I'll take a look to make sure all of my wiring is OK. I'm thinking that it's something to do with the cold cathodes in the trunk because the LEDs are just replacement light bulbs...
