01 EX 5 Speed Strengthening

I have a few questions about the 5 speed manuals in the 01 Civics. I am about to go through mine and freshen it up. Its only a DD so I just need it to be dependable. Are there any weak points I need to address while i am in there?

Also, I would like to either replace the final drive or the 5th gear with something higher so I can get lower RPM's on the highway with 5th gear. Currently I am at about 3900-4000 at 80 MPH. I would like to cut that down by about 500-800 RPM's. I have found a few places who do that stuff for Honda's but not my tranny. The place is Mfactory. I would really like to figure this out so any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Re: 01 EX 5 Speed Strengthening

If you purchase a tranny from a non EX and "freshen" it up it will already have a higher final drive. The EX was given a lower ratio for more spirited driving.

Re: 01 EX 5 Speed Strengthening

First of all thank you for all of your responses. I have a few questions in regards to that. Can I just take the Diff out of one and replace it in mine. So basically, are they the same transmission? I mean honestly, my fifth gear is crap in my car. It wont pull very hard at all. I have only been able to get my car to almost 130 MPH. Once I hit 5th it really wont go any more. So I need the fuel mileage. I realize the car isnt made for racing. So anyway let me know on that and I may just look into that? The fifth gear ratios in those LX's or w/e are they different as well, can those be switched out? Thanks again for the responses guys.
