Twin turbo
I was just wondering since I have seen k20/k24 swaps, bolt on turbo kits, and k20 with turbo, if it would be possible to do a twin turbo kit for an 01 civic si/ex. And how much this might cost(ballpark)? This isn't a joke but a serious question. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Re: Twin turbo
yea why? i mean a sequential turbo set up like them bmw 335's seems too difficult to pull off and otherwise we just don't have enough cylinders to warrant a twin turbo system. i mean even if u get a huge turbo (i.e. GT3071
) for the civic, the spool up time isn't half bad

unless youre willing to spend more money to do this than it would cost you to buy a completely brand new car with probably double the hp, it isnt going to happen. i dont think any 'realistic' 4 cylinders would handle a twin turbo setup very well unless the engine is actually designed that way.
unless of course youre thinking about doing something like this......
hahaha.

Re: Twin turbo
actually lisa kubo ran a twin turbo set up on her b18 back in the day when she was whipping everyones asses on the strip, so a 4cyl can handle it if its put together. Now i cant say that without saying that tech has advanced quite a bit since then and turbos spool faster, make more boost, and are lighter than they used to be so 2 are really not needed for the same reasons they used to be used ( on our cars that is ). Look at the high horsepower supras most of them have switched to a singel BIG *** turbo in lew of the twin set up
Re: Twin turbo
its possible, but not efficient. i mean, by the time you get the small turbo to spool to spool the bigger one, its kinda a dumb idea no offence. But not practical. Its easier to go down the single turbo route cuz its more efficient and also you will probably produce more power.
Re: Twin turbo
and with that you'd probably need a exhaust larger than 3".. and it bad enough we have a clearence problem in the rear already. You can only use and oem sway bar with a 3" exhuast. But blow your car up if you want to

Thanks to all of those that gave me useful information. The rest of **** ***. Blah blah blah. I've already heard every stupid comment before so if you don't have anything positive to say **** off. The reason I was thinking about the whole idea was to try something different for the show scene. Extra power is a bonus too. I was thinking about running the smallest turbos available at 3-4 psi a piece if possible. My buddy can design a custom exhaust manifold. Any further POSITIVE help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: Twin turbo
hey ... jus a suggestion .. my tuner here has a 1.6 and its super charged and turboed . . its sooo beautiful..
the supercharger kicks in low his torque at 2grand is 180 and at 5 grand the turbo takes over for the high end .. its real neat and i think u should definately look into it

Re: Twin turbo
why is it that anytime someone gets on and has a question about trying something new or diff everyone talks **** about/to them? Andy you say this is a stupid ****ing thread do you think people thought you were stupid when you poored thousands of dollars into the D17, you obviously didnt care what they thought and now your pushing 500 out of it, but only because you tried something new and diff. i guess im the dumb *** for thinking that these forums were here for people to get informed and talk out new ideas.

Re: Twin turbo
I thought about this. Not doing it to a Civic, but just wanted to understand how it works. I looked at my buddie's TT RX7 setup. The number of vac lines, solenoids and all the rest that allow the primary turbo to come online at the proper time was daunting. I'm not stupid, but I couldn't wrap my head around it. Too complicated too worry about on a FWD that has major traction issues over 350whp is the conclusion I came to.
Re: Twin turbo
twin turbo supra common right? supra engine = inline six. meaning one exhaust manifold. if your talking domestic bs, buick grand national perhaps. its got the v6 but two exhaust manifolds and twin turbo setups are very common in that area.
Re: Twin turbo
i can't believe this is even an argument...
just where do you think you'd put that second turbo? and how much boost would you build off 2 cylinders? and i've seen a TT supra run 2 manifolds. not saying it's the best idea in the world, but why not? he's got plenty of room. our civics, however, do not.

It's funny, when you ask for help, you get all the stupid or smart *** comments that I've heard before. Anyways. For those that are willing to help...I've got a friend that rebuilds engines so that part will be taken care of, including a custom exhaust manifold. As far as the turbos go...don't they sort of feed off themselves.
