CAI question

sup guys,

I've been thinking about getting an AEM cold air intake, but I've been getting mixed reviews about it. From the reviews I've read, many say that the filter breaks off easily and it's difficult to install. However, others also say that it's one of the best upgrades they have in their cars, but it's difficult for me to judge because the reviews I've read were not all from civic owners. So i'd like to know what the consensus is about the AEM CAI from civic users.

If you're a '01 LX owner with the AEM CAI, I'd really appreciate your input. Thanks

Re: CAI question

I agree with gearbox, definitely get the short ram. the way the cold air intakes sit, they can easily get water inside which is bad news. with the amount of space youll have when you remove your stock air box and other junk, there will be a lot of air flowing through your grill to feed the short ram intake with cool air anyway, thats why i went with one as well.

and...this might be my own theory, but with the sport type black grills that a lot of guys have, i think they have way better air flow going through them because its pretty much just a big space in your front end compared to the stock grill which also helps a sri.

Re: CAI question

+1 I had the AEM SRI and I liked it a lot better than stock. It was nice not to have to worry much about driving through standing water as well.

Re: CAI question

The only reason you would need to worry about 'hydrolocking', via the CAI, is if you were submerging the filter in a large body of water (like driving through deep puddles all the time). Other wise you do not need to worry about hydrolocking.
