Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
Above the cupholders was the only place I could think to put it since it's so big, but it works great there, I can switch songs or navigate somewhere pretty much without even having to take my hand off the shifter. Had to make my own mount thanks to some parts down at the local ACE Hardware, but it looks good. What do you guys think?
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
I'll be honest, I think its distracting and unsafe. I mean you have to look down away from the road.
Then again if you are happy, good for you.

Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
I don't think it's unsafe, I have mine mounted in my double DIN and when I look at that I can't see any portion of the road either. It's about glancing and mostly just listening to the directions. How's the glare?
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
Well its times like this I think the text to speech feature is really useful. On my mom's GPS, it doesnt have that feature so I have to look at the street name.
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
yea i tried sitting it on my dash and i couldn't see much around it. i've missed having my cup holders the last couple of mornings when i've ordered my coffee and water from mcdonalds on the way to work, but i'll deal with it. as for the glare...there isn't one. it sits down there where it doesn't get much light on it anyways, but have to turn the backlight way down at night or you can't see. it loses satellite reception a lot being down there so i'm gonna have to get an external antenna, and i'm gonna replace my stereo with a pioneer with rear auxilary input so i can listen to music and not have the cables sticking out everywhere. Gugu77, the way i mounted it was with a bent "L" bracket from ACE Hardware with one bolt going into the dash next to the cigarette lighter and the other end bolted onto the back of the cradle. All things considered, i think it was a success.
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
Shoulda got a Magellan............just kidding, those garmins are right on the money with directions. Can you play the voice directions over your car speakers with that aux cable?
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
yea it does, it stops the music and says the street name and which way to turn and how far...it's got weather, stocks, xm radio and traffic too, but who wants to pay for all that..i was sold when i saw the music player on it.
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
OMG thats awsome now I have to blow my stimulous check on one of these. How many songs can you store on it?
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
Not sure I like that mounting location, but I see what you're saying. It's not an easy solution. I wonder, if you're looking for something cleaner and more long term, if you could mount it in a double-DIN slot, and mount your head unit where the cigarette lighter is now. I know a lot of members have done that with a carputer, etc.
Just some food for thought.

Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
yea mounting it where the stereo is now was what i was originally thinking, but i didn't want to have to move all the wires down and extend the fm antenna and stuff, and i didn't want to have to make some brackets for it to fit down there. i would like to figure something else out tho cuz i kinda like having my cup holders. jonjonEM2, you can store as many songs as an SD card will hold. i had a 1GB card layin around that i put in there and it's got 232 songs on it. i think i'm gonna go get a 4GB or 8GB and put some more on there.
Re: Mounted the Garmin 7200, what do you think?
yea as soon as mine comes in i'm getting some black projectors and some black altezzas...how do HID's look in the projectors and how well do the halos work, anyone know?
