Speaker Wire

Hi - First post here.

I searched throughout the forums for the answer to this, but to no avail.
I am about to become an owner of a 2004 Civic 2 Coupe.

I plan to replace the stereo system complete with 4 new speaker, head unit and amp.

I've seen the DIY on replacing the speaker - big ups for all the posts actually - been informative.

My question is, should I replace all the speaker wire leading to the speakers? or is it okay if I just reconnect to the factory installed speaker wire behind the head unit?

Thanks,
Jaycue

Re: Speaker Wire

If you are using an external amp to power the speakers (not the head units internal amp) then I would recommend running new wire. Else if you are using the head units internal amp, I personally would not. Thats just my 2 cents.

Re: Speaker Wire

you would only change the wiring if it was a really old car (i.e. 92 civic) other than that you won't have to, i'm learning to do install's at best buy, and our pro tech. new his ****

Re: Speaker Wire

depends....

if your running an aftermarket amplifier to speakers (6", 6x9's, etc...) with bigger watts then yea...id still do a wire upgrade, and even with the new wiring you can purchase today from Stereo stores is much cleaner then OEM **** imho. the stuff OEM run is just basic wire thats it. The stuff from your stereo stores are oxygen free, etc....

but if its just a typical low powered amp to half *** speakers then id leave the OEM wiring as is.

Re: Speaker Wire

It also depends on where you mounting the amp...If you have it in the trunk, might as well run new wiring.
