Smile Shaking Fixed! A Must Read For The Civic Owner!

After Replacing almost the whole front end my problem is now fixed!

Auto Transmission
Axles(Raxles, Thanks Marty!)
Tires (Good Year)
Front Lower Bushings (Honda)
Brakes (Power Stop, Big Difference)

and what fixed the shaking (Tie Rod Ends). Should have bought these first!

Also, I get no vibration in the steering wheel now (Tie Rod Problem). The car feels sharper around turns, and shifts smoother with no second gear clunk.

Mark where you take off the Tie Rod Ends with white out, this will help with toe. Also, go to a good alignment shop, it took me two tries to get it right.

Could it have been the alignment and not the tie rod ends that fixed your problem? That commonly fixes shaking in the wheel. It could also have been the balance of the wheels since they would have had to rebalance them when changing the tires.

^^^again, i follow the poster above.

Loose tie rod bushings will allow it to shake, the worse they are, the more shaking it has

Re: Shaking Fixed! A Must Read For The Civic Owner!

although, ball joints will do the same thing, as will a bad balance, as will a bad tire, or badly balanced half shafts, but i agree, replace the simplest thing first..... if u want to know how to check tie rods, jack one side up, then the other, then wiggle the front wheels left and right slightly, and if the wheel makes noise, or has play, its most likely tie rod ends, or possibly the power steering rack.....

What kind of shaking? Maybe I missed the original post? Are you talking about abnormal something is broken shaking, or the vibration that you get at around 80mph?

Re: Shaking Fixed! A Must Read For The Civic Owner!

the vibrations at 80mph are likely just from non-goood tires lift.

Re: Shaking Fixed! A Must Read For The Civic Owner!

Yes, I would have replaced the tie rod ends first, but everthing in the front end needed to be replaced anyway. The torque converter on the transmission locked. The axles clicked around corners. The brakes shuttered when I stopped. The tires had tread showing. The control arm bushing were holding on by a thread (Check the lower control arm bushings if you have not, talk about a possible cash).

Ohh, I did have an alignment done when I got the new tires, it did not fix the shaking.

The shaking was at 58-up you feel a vibration in the steering wheel, and I even heard a shudder, especially when I let off the gas. It was indeed the tie rod ends. The tie rods were not keeping the front end tight.

I bought the car at 120,000 miles, and the owner before me did nothing to the car. I paid 5,500 for the car knowing that I would have to put work/money. Though, I wasn't expecting the trans to go within the first 5,000miles I had the car. Honda dosen't build there cars like they used to, just look at car-complaints.com.

Re: Shaking Fixed! A Must Read For The Civic Owner!

i disagree about honda building crap cars, i have 2 7th gens, and both are great cars, and yes, they have their quirks, and both of mine are manual, so no worries about the trans.... but yea, the autos do suck *** on the 7th gen, glad to hear ur problems are gone tho!!
