Exclamation Help With Radio Code

Hey guys I have an 02 Civic Coupe Ex. I recently disconnected my battery to fix some things on my car with my friend. I know that when i disconnect the battery i need the code to use my radio again. Well a while back a mechanic had fixed my transmission for me and did not give me the code. He told me to go to the delaer and get it from them. He told me it would be free. So I went right after he was done fixing my tranny. The dealer said it would be around 20-40 bucks to fix becuase they had to take my Head Unit out in order to find the serial number for the code. I went back to the mechanic to get the code and he got it and input it. (He did not tell me what it was). I went back to the same mechanic to get my alternator fixed. Once again they disconnected my battery so this time I told him not to forget to put in the code. He got mad and said i had the code and i told him i didnt. After a while of arguing with him and showing him my recipts from last time he fixed me car he told me to come back in an hour and hed put it in for me again. I come back and he says its done. I ask him for the code and it looks like he didnt have it written down so he told me i guess off the top of his head. I wrote it down and i tried it today after i needed it and it didnt work. I dont have the card that has the code becuase i bought the car used and it did not come with it. Is there anyway for me to get the code without taking out my radio or paying for it? Please let me know.

Re: Help With Radio Code

try just calling the dealership, give them ur vin# and s/n from the radio. if they still wana charge you try calling another dealership. some charge and some dont, idk y?!
Find s/n: Turn key to Acc. Make sure radio is off. Press and hold 1 and 6 preset buttons, and turn on the radio. The radio will display four digits, right them down. Then the radio will display another four digits, right them down. These make up the 8 digit s/n.
