Accuracy of auto trans dipstick?

I recently bought an '02 Civic with an auto trans. When checking the tranny fluid, it appears to be half way up the dipstick. If this is correct, this trans has been overfilled for a while I'm guessing. The crosshatched area on the dipstick only takes up maybe 1/5 of the bottom, but my fluid is literally a few inches above that. So is this normal or is my tranny way overfilled? If so, I need to drain it asap.

um yea thats way above normal. sometimes when ur car has been running for a while and u let it sit, and u have a normal full thing of oil, then it might be a tad over the proper line, but a couple of inches...DRAIN IT..and do it completely. do a full oil change and let it sit for a long time.
