Diy Auto To Manual 02 'vic Ex 4dr

DIY AUTO TO MANUAL 02 ‘VIC EX 4 DR
Parts List:
transmission
ECU
Shifter with cables
guage cluster
master cylinder
Slave Cylinder
manual transmission speed sensor
starter
Axles
clutch pedal assembly
Flywheel
sub frame/lower engine cradle
transmission motor mount Rear and Left
clutch
dash harness
engine harness
Various bolts from Honda (flywheel, clutch)

Most of the parts I got either from ebay (Honda parts unlimited) or car-part.com. I used the ETM Honda manual for all of this (http://www.xproductionz.com/servicem.../Civic0105.zip).
First take out the automatic transmission. Remove the dashboard, center console, shifter assembly, and shift cables. When removing the transmission, take out the sub frame and engine harness completely. The end links on the front sway bar can be a $%^$. I cut them with a hacksaw because I ordered Dezod’s end links. Install the new shifter, cables, and brake pedal. The clutch pedal needs to be cutout. Luckily Honda uses generic bodies for both auto and manual. The cutouts are there. Just use a 2 inch hole saw and drill and make a hole for the master cylinder and clutch pedal bolts. You also have to use a die grinder and cut into the inner fender for the master cylinder to fit correctly. Then just bolt up the flywheel, pilot bearing, clutch and transmission following steps in the manual. Inside install the new dash harness and computer, then just put everything back together including the new cluster. Run the new engine harness after you install the transmission. Then take your car to the dealer to get your key flashed. The new ECU will not recognize your key. (stupid immobilizer)

Re: Diy Auto To Manual 02 'vic Ex 4dr

coulda saved alot of money from buying that dash harness if you did the wiring yourself. all you had to do is cut 2 wires ground one and hook up the other one to the clutch position switch.....and bam!

Re: Diy Auto To Manual 02 'vic Ex 4dr

I've just had the infamous A/T failure and want to convert to manual. Are the trannies interchangable between vtec and non-vtec motors?

Also, I read a write up on an earlier model auto-manual swap and they mentioned that the cruise control would no longer work...I have an LX, so I'd like all the existing niceties to continue to function. Army12bc, does everything work as normal on your car after the swap?

its worth it in the end, especailly if you k swap. most transmissions new cost more than this swap

I'm thinking of doing the k swap myself. Would it be cheaper to do the auto to manual trans swap first, or do it together along with the k engine swap? I was thinking of swapping the transmission first and learn how to drive stick with the d17...then later on switch out the engine for a k20.

The real question here is if doing a swap is really worth it, or will it just be as much as selling my civic and buying and RSX-S? I know the RSX has a better suspension and better brakes ( the brakes on my car suck) so you have to factor this in also. What do you guys think?
