Hi
I have a 2008 Civic with 41 000 km and my check engine light went on with a P0420 code. I have to say that the temperature was very very cold this week. My mechanic told me the light turned on because there was humidity on the catalytic converter and it would evaporate by itself. I have been looking on Google for this specific code and a lot of people are buying new cats or new O2 sensors when they see P0420.
What do you guys think?
Thanks!

Re-set the ECM/PCM by pulling the ECM/PCM fuse for more than 10 while the ignition is off. If the code comes back it will either be the sensor, the cat, or both. Take it back to the dealer and have them fix it. You're well within the warranty period and the Fed mandates they have to fix all emissions related problems up to 80K miles free of charge, including any additional parts or labor needed to fix the original problem.
Easy way to test the cat: LIGHTLY tap the cat and if you hear anything rattling around in there the cat is bad.

If you think a good mechanic is expensive, try hiring a bad one
Re: 2008 Civic P0420
Cat is covered by federal emissions warranty for 8 years/80,000 miles here.
Check your warranty coverage there.
The P0420 code had better be in the computer when you take it in, nothing can be done if it isn't there.

Again:
I have no idea what Canadas rules are.
Warranty with a Rebuilt title? Doubt it.
Have a dealer run your VIN# to see if it is "branded". If it is branded, you are SOL. I can't even be sure it would be eligible for recalls.
Call customer assistance, ask them the exact same questions.
I would try to get customer assistance to double check what a dealer tells you, too.
